Kennel cough protection

Can we please stop calling it "Kennel cough"; please? (Nah. I know the answer -its in the public consciousness so I'm stuffed there).
I prefer "infectious cough" as it can be picked up ANYWHERE including on your morning walk past all those bordetella carrying and shedding dogs. In the park, in the vets, at the beach, at the groomers... you get the idea. It just so happens that kennels are a place where a lot of dogs are thrown into close proximity thus making it more likely it will get a hold. True enough most cases can be associated with kenneling but not all by any means. Even after recovery the period of potential transmission can be up to 4 months - most owners couldn't even begin to maintain this level of quarantine - I certainly couldn't.
As for a requirement for kennel licences.. Depends on local authority policy. Most responsible kennels ask for it to be done. Those that do not have probably never had to deal with the slew of claims for costs for Vet treatment from annoyed clients whose pets have contracted the problem whilst in their establishment.
Vaccine? Not perfect by any stretch but certainly get less severe problems if the problem is contracted. 12month one is to be preferred by ALL parties!Garantissez-moi de mes amis, je saurai me defendre de mes ennemis0 -
I was considering boarding our dogs overnight so we could go to a wedding. That kennel required a KC vax and it had to be done 14 days prior to stay.
When i enquired at our vets it was £21 for the 6 monthly one. So it would of cost £60 for a 1 night stay for my 2 dogs when we probably wouldn't use the kennels enough within the 6months to make it worthwhile.0
