Well it would depend on various interest payments into the ISA's. I can't remember when they started though or if I strted saving when they first came out. Why do you ask?
  • I started out just over 3 years ago and i've managed to save about £9,600 ... roll on April and the new financial year. Come on mortgage deposit fund. Quite happy to have paid off a 2 grand student overdraft and a few thousand off my student loan in that time also.

Good stuff, I only started saving about a year ago but all my savings are about to go on a deposit for a flat purchase.
Once you've used up your ISA allowance I suggest moving the max amount per month from a 5% savings account to a 10% reg saver - you'll end up with an effective rate that's pretty much the average of the two accounts. So that's 7.5% for a 10% reg saver, take away tax and it's 6% ish, better than ISAs.
    Happy chappy
  • I've saved £15k 'capital' in my ISA - next £3k primed to go in on 6th April :j
  • £17,700 capital (6 years at £3,000 less £300 withdrawal since I turned 18)

Current balance £20,236 soon to be another £3k added.

Started life with £100 in a Smile ISA in November 2000, jumped ship to Abbey Postal ISA in May 2003 with the balance around £9k then on to A&L Direct ISA Issue 2 in January 2006.

I'm aiming for over £30k towards a house deposit once I can earn enough to afford a mortgage. Not in any desperate hurry as I share a house with 3 friends and only pay £180 per month in rent so even on little more than minimum wage I'm able to save £300+ each month.

    That's the plan anyway

£12,000 in capital and £723.21 in interest :(

    OT, but ...

    My stocks & shares ISA ..... £13,000 in ....current gain £6,472.62!!! :j

Of course, the value could fall and I could end up with less than the £13,000 I put in. I only started in 2003 and I've been getting an annualised return of 21%!!

I'm not bothering with a mini-cash ISA next year - I'll be putting the full £7k into more funds via a stocks & shares ISA. I own no shares - just funds.
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)
  • Well done everyone, but......

Can the MSE management please put a block on this thread so that Gordon and Treasury can't read it ;)?

When I last looked my 1995 PEP / now ISA had grown from £6K to £22K :).

Stupidest mistake ever? I didn't keep my £9K tax free TESSA going :o .

On Cash ISAs I can't match Nelly and Jim's performance.

Mini cash ISA's & TESSA combined, Missus and me - about £54k

    Shares ISA's - about £9k

Roll on April for another £6k .... :)... The max including interest that I could have saved in the cash isa' tessa's is probably about £70k so forwent tax free status on about £16k's worth :(.

Myself and OH have saved the maximum allowed since Tessas began, followed by ISAs, and have around £70k this year. OH also has PEPs which, having lost money in the last few years, are now gaining nicely.

    Definitely worth going tax free

    £35.5k

7 x £3k plus £9k from a matured ISA plus £5.5k in interest so far.

Another £3k to go in on 6/4 with maybe £500 interest (part year transfer so only 6 months interest).

So come next weekend I should have approx £39k in my cash ISA.

I have £50k approx in my shares mini ISA and PEP, again I have £4k to go in there on Thursday. Not sure what share to buy though (I buy one a year, running my ISA as a HYP). Maybe RDSB. High Yield shares aren't showing very high yields at the mo!
