Are you a victim of workplace bullying? There is no strict definition but it starts to sound like it from what you describe.

I don't want to feel miserable at work! I am here too much to be like this.

So you were posting on MSE from work.Even if your lunch is at nearly 2 in the afternoon it is sending out the wrong message, imho, if you want to go places you need to grab stuff with both hands, not wait for it to be handed to you on a plate.

They might be jealous of you, already knowing the area etc, why not invite them out with you, instead of waiting for an invitation??

    Hi Jokaty82,

I am very sorry to hear about your situation, I know how difficult it is when you are miserable at work.

I think the key to solving your problems would be for you to 'gel' with your colleagues. This might seem like it is impossible but really with the right attitude it's not that difficult. I appreciate that they don't really speak interact with you at the moment but it is possible that they think your just not interested and therefore don't bother trying to mix with you.

Try making a real effort to be friendly towards them. When you get to work say good morning to everyone, ask how their weekends were. Try and find subjects that they are passionate about and speak to them about them, remember everyone enjoys speaking about themselves! You might need to make a bit of effort to begin with but once everyone sees how nice and friendly you really are they will want to bring you into their click. It doesn't matter if you have nothing in common and they like motorbikes whilst you like knitting - take an interest in their hobby (eg, how long have they been riding for, where do they go on the bike ect) to begin with in order to get them talking and after that you can talk about all the usual every day stuff like the weather, what was on tv last night, ect.

I wonder if the reason you work with your boss while the other 4 work in a mini team is because of the lack of interaction between you and the team and therefore your boss thinks it's better to work with him? I also wonder if this whole situation has got you down so much that even though you are asking your boss for more work you are still not coming across as passionate about it and as as your boss is very passionate about the work he likes to hang on to it himself. Some people don't like to delegate their work, thinking it's easier to do it themselves or someone else might not do it right. Perhaps rather then asking for more projects to be passed over to you, could you see if there is anything you can do to help him with his projects? This way you could get more work, show your boss how good you are and earn his trust and respect without him having to give up his precious projects. Given time he is likely to hand over more things to you once he sees that you can do it as well as he can.

One more idea, why not bring in some cake to share with your colleagues? Everyone likes someone that brings cake to work! You could say that 2 different friends/family member brought you birthday cakes and you thought you'd bring one in to share!

I hope this helps, I know it might seem like these ideas wont make a difference but give them a try and I'm sure you will see an improvement!
