Moving from BT Broadband

Can anyone advise on the best wireless broadband to move to, as The Broadband hub we find useless especially for my sons xbox 360, also the price is high with bt.The Virgin deal for phone, tv and broadband seems reasonably priced, what is their wireless service like? we don't want cables all through the house so i think that is our only option.By the way we are on a 12 month contact with maybe 2 or 3 months left on bt, what would they charge to leave?

If you cancel BT you'll be charged the remaining months left on the contract. So you may as well sit out the last couple of months, as you'll have to pay for them anyway.
Why don't you just get the Home Hub working properly, or switch to a decent wireless router?

As a side issue - if you don’t want cables running round the house consider “Homeplugs”. These are Ethernet adapters which you plug into the mains of the house and the Ethernet cable into it then plug in the router or PC i.e. from the Router you plug into one of these adapters (which work better when not used via a mains extention - but it still works) and anywhere else in the house you want a connection plug in another adapter (there are also adapters for 2 or 3 Ethernets in the same location) in to the one mains plug.
I use this method for my Internet Radios and my sons in their bedrooms for their PC’s.
NOTE: it’s not a cheap option i.e. £20 - £40 per adapter dependant on the brand but it provides a much better signal to noise ratio than the wireless and much more secure too. Search Google or eBay

Wireless quality depends on a lot of things, the quaility of the wireless router is just one of them. In particular, location in the house, other wireless devices such as video senders and intereference from neighbours using overlapping wireless channels can all affect the quaility of the reception.

Try changing the default wireless channel on the router for starters. Quite likely one of your neighbours also has a Home Hub on the same channel. In many instances this is all that needs to be done to improve connectivity.

    Hello rosegirl36,

What kind of hub do you have? Does the wireless connection drop out?

Here is some info on how to change the wireless channel, which may help improving the wireless connection.
