Repeat offers available

Apologies to start this thread but the sticky one is so long and does not seem to get hardly any postings these days so hope a quick update one may help.
I am trying to see if anyone is getting any luck on repeat offers at the end of their 0% periods at the moment particularly on Virgin as my 0% has just run out and I have paid the balance but need to create another balance transfer if one is available preferably without having to apply for another card.
Also interested in repeat experiences for Halifax which runs out for me in August and Egg and Nat West that are currently dormant, thanks

Recently offered 0% for 6 months with a 2% fee on Virgin Atlantic. Try customer loyalty on 0800 783 1116.

Never had better than 7.9% offered by Halifax.

Thanks for that, I rang them and they have 'no promotional offers at present but may have some in the next couple of months', not a very encouraging reply as previously people on here indicated that Virgin were very good for repeat offers but that does not now seem to be the case.
Might have to be another card but with 6 already that may be tricky !!

I wouldn't write off Virgin just yet.

It's worth remembering that Virgin/MBNA has a reputation for regular, follow-on offers, which you can use to your advantage, once your balance is paid off in full. This lender will even waive BT fees sometimes, if you're prepared to negotiate over the phone. I've had offers as good or better than the introductory deals now and again.

As above, Halifax reserves its best offers for new customers, so perhaps consider ditching that one ;)

Just had a call from Virgin to conduct an 'account review' and their conclusion was to cut my £7.5k credit limit to £1.5k as I have 'too much credit' and in the current climate it would be irresponsible of them to lend to me !!
I did remind them that I have no late payments on my credit file with Virgin or any others so I seem to be managing my credit ok but they were not interested, I then asked to cancel the card as this limit was not worth it and this was accepted with no attempt to change my mind at all.

Maybe the days of repeat offers are gone for MNBA

Bad luck, but thanks for your feedback.

Yes, which is best depends, to some extent, on which cards - besides Egg, Halifax, NatWest and Virgin - you have at the mo or have held recently.

Have you considered the Post Office card?

12 months at 0% is currently available to new customers on balance transfers made in the first 3 months. There's a 2.98% BT fee.
Also, 5 months at 0% on new balance transfers requested in the month of your 1st and 2nd anniversary ;)

Thanks for that, I have those mentioned but not yet the Post Office one, might be getting tricky with holding so many cards and credit but did apply in branch for the Abbey 15 mth 0% one and got sent a 12 mth 0% one but only a £3000 credit limit so not much use for transferring the upcoming balance from Halifax.

Is there any indication as to which cards give generous credit limits or is it just pot luck as to how they interpret your credit rating ?

Do you mind me asking what prompted Virgin to call and carry out an account review?
I have an MBNA card with a balance on a promotional rate which expires soon and i was planning to move the balance away from the card and move it back again straight away. I called MBNA and they said they could offer me a rate similiar to my current one but couldn't confirm the exact rate until I had cleared the balance. I am just worried I will clear the balance then they will not let me move the money back?

No idea really the phone call just came out of the blue today, I paid the balance off at the end of May when the 0% came to an end and rang them a couple of weeks ago to see if they had any offers but was told to try again in a few weeks.

Was surprised as have never had any credit limits reduced on any of my cards before and have no late payments at all so I was hoping to get a repeat offer to use in the future but a drop in credit limit like that makes it better to cancel the card and then apply again in a few months time when hopefully they will offer a higher limit.

Hope you have more luck but there does not seem to have been any repeat offers mentioned by people on here for a while.

Unfortunately, none of us knows in advance the credit limit we will be handed.

If the worst happens, Martin's advice is to transfer what you can. You'll still save money ;)

I wouldn't leave an offer unused out of exasperation. It's already on your credit file, so you may as well use it. (See Martin's *Credit Card Limit: didn't get what you wanted?* article)

Lenders do not disclose the criteria they use to decide on credit limits, but your available credit in relation to your income is likely to be a factor, particulary as you hold six credit card accounts at the mo.

In addition to the number of accounts in use, lenders look at the extent their credit limits have been utilised. Maxed out accounts make you look stretched so, if you're going to apply for market-leading BT cards, it's wise to leave some headroom ;)
