I don't really understand the panic about this. The conditions at most places were buy a full priced adult ticket and get a child free with a badge. So this was no better than a normal BOGOF deal and you can normally get discounted tickets from agents in any case. We have used this scheme both at Longleat and Warwick castle but in both cases the benefit compared with other deals was marginal. I thought that the venues used this as just one of their promotional tools to encourage family visits.
Yes sales were being made on e-bay at what seemed to be rediculous prices but if the BBC had asked I would have thought e-bay would have removed these auctions. Likewise fakes were being sold openly in some cases but then it is up to the venues to refuse the use of fakes.
This all seems to be an over-reaction but perhaps its just a publicity stunt to promote a program format which is struggling to maintain an audience share.

The Beeb asked Ebay, earlier this week, Ebay refused to co-operate.

Really! They take just about anything else off that is even a little dubious.

    I don't get it.

All badges out there were issued by Blue Peter themselves.

If I want to sell my one (I don't have one really but bear with me lol) to Flo in Southampton, then Flo can get into those places free and I can't any longer.

In reality, nobody is losing out at all.

No one loses out either way.

Badge holders can still flog their badges for cash as they wish. Buyers who were unable to get into places for free - still can't get into places for free - so no loss. :)

There was the same argument with the Live8 tickets wasn't there? If I recall a direct appeal was made to ebay by Sir Bob and for a while the tickets were all pulled, but they did start to creep on again as ebay just couldn't pull them fast enough. People were putting them up with a phone number in the listing say phone me quick before the auction disappears.

If there are 1 million in circulation, that means 1 million people can use them - if people buy and sell them, it doesn't change how many can be used does it??

They are probably miffed because people are making a profit out of them, but then again, anything you own personally you should be able to do whatever with it.

the problem here is if there are 1 million in circulation say and i have 1, i can get into these places, however, what is 10 of my mates want to go to the same places, i can lend them my badge then in reality i have used my badge 10 times to go into that place. Those badges should be only used by the person who owns them. if you were running a buisness you wouldnt be happy letting 10 freebies in when they should be paying. Its like lending your passport to a friend, you cant use it cause someone else is.

I read in the paper yesterday something that I really agree with. It stated that people are complaining about these bages being sold, but that NOTHING is being done about the War badges that are being sold on there. Soldiers in their 70's and 80's who have to sell their medals because they need the money to support themselves in the country that they fought to defend many years ago. It's not the issue of the badges being sold, it's what they represent. Sure, a Blue Peter badge doesn't represent a lot compared to a war medal, but it still represents that someone has had to go out and do something to get it, and someone is just buying the badge which makes it seem like they've done the feats necessary to deserve it!

Sorry, there is a point in there somewhere, but I'm probably way off-topic! Getting too stuck into my dissertation!! (although, if the standard of writing in that is anything like my post here.... oops!)

Back to work before I make more random posts!!

You mean, like, you hardly ever see a stolen mobile phone or a pirated DVD on eBay? No, of course not!

No-one suggested they were consistent or meticulous!
