The US newspapers were full of green-shoots stories in Spring/Summer of 1930. The tone was optimistic. The economy didn't fall into total ruin the day the stock market crashed in '29. Attention to rising stock prices had all but overshadowed lingering concern about the events of "last October."
It would certainly be interesting to read these newspapers so that history doesn't repeat!0 -
I read about recovery being slow and drawn out, unemployment and taxes to rise, and spending cuts. This leads me to believe that house prices will fall a lot further. That's what I expect to happen.there's a big difference in what you hear/read, what you to believe and what will happen.0 -

You can buy originals on ebay for £50 Also there is a wall street trader close to a 100, he can tell first hand some of the measures but unfortunately no one in government is interested in listening to him.
I doubt obama has a 30's copy of nytimes on his desk but I agree he should just for a brief glance or insight
The newspaper splashed with the story that FDR had closed the US banking system – invoking the Trading with Enemies Act – and ordered the confiscation of private gold. From left to right, the headlines read: "Hitler Bloc Wins A Reich Majority, Rules Prussia"; "Japanese Push On In Fierce Fighting, China Closes Wall, Nanking Admits Defeat"; "City Scrip To Replace Currency"; "President Takes Steps Under Sweeping Law of War Time"; "Prison For Gold Hoarders".
