when my great grandma died I was about 8 and a family member (I can't remember who) explained everything to me and gave me and my cousin the choice of whether or not to attend the funeral. We understood what had happened and I was just glad that everything was explained to me and I was allowed to make my own decision. I decided not to go and have never regretted that but if I had been made to go I think I would have been much more upset if I had had to go but this way my cousin and I held our own little remembrance thing whilst everyone else was at the funeral.

If he's only going to be away for a day then he could take your DD with him if she wanted to go and if you want to go then take your 2 year old too. If you don't want to go you can just stay at home with them both. You seem annoyed about having to look after them whilst he goes and visits his grandma but if I was him I would also want to go and visit her and it is only for a day.

PP thanks for your input hun, I guess until we sit together (DH thinks it should be ME not both of us!) & talk to DD we'll see how she feels about everything as well then go from there. She cried for 2 hours last time we went (not in front of her Great Grandma but once we got home) because of how upset she was xx

I would expect her to be upset but it doesn't mean that it wasn't better for her to go. Good luck talking to her, I agree that it should be both of you and I think that letting her have some input is a good idea x Hope you and DH sort things out

  • The kids have visited every week since they were born so it's a big part of there lives as well. I am not annoyed about him wanting to go see his Grandma, I would never stop him doing that, what I don't want is the kids feeling like they are being pushed away not only from thier Gran but also Daddy. I have said we need to talk to DD see how she feels but DH thinks because his Mum has suggested kids no longer go up that that's what we should do. I am annoyed at him not including me in talks/decisions especially when it comes to the kids.

night cathy and all who are going xx

hope you get things sorted pms, i think it should be your dd who should decide what she wants to do and not dh, i think it would be unfair on your dd if dh banned the kids from seeing her as this could affect them even more than getting to see her

hugs hun, here for a chat anytime xxxx

  • The things is I absolutley love my MIL, she really is fab BUT DH is very much a mummy's boy. Since his Dad died he'll quite happily (and rightly so) do anything his Mum wants him to do, but when I ask him to do things (DIY for example) it gets left xx
