receiving calls on a UK mobile whilst overseas which doesn't burst the bank
My daughter is working overseas in the Carribean and has her UK mobile with her. It was not costing her to receive calls until recently and it is now making me cry as I pay the bill! Has anyone any ideas as to how to cut the costs of receiving calls whilst overseas apart from changing her phone number to local sim, as her present number is her main business contact number. I would be very grateful for any ideas as we have had to stop all calls to her and are relying on texts

Get a sim from United Mobile ( formerly Riing), It is free to receive calls in most countries.

If you don't want to use a local SIM in the current phone as it would change the number, get her a second phone and put a local SIM in that. Then you can call her using a discount access number from the Callchecker:

Try https://www.0044.co.uk - they sell and will deliver Sim cards for many worldwide countries, buy one for the country you expect to be visiting, put it in an unlocked compatable phone. Give the number out to people who wish to call you - but also recommend to them the cheepst provider to use to call the number.... eg. if in the US - the calls made can be FREE (even to US mobiles) if you use a voip provider such as sipdiscount !
For other providers that can give cheeper calls to international mobiles (as opposed to using your default phone company) check out the links others have posted !

This is a good idea but it only allows you to receive free calls in certain locations, check the list before you buy.0 -
Whilst people are right to suggest a foreign SIM, it isn't the complete picture.
As the OP mentions, the UK mobile number is used for receiving business calls, so some form of call diversion would be useful to reach a foreign SIM. O2 can divert calls direct, but the good tariffs are only for Europe USA and Canada. Some VOIP companies will issue a landline incoming number and do call diversion to any number, even without setting up to make actual calls from the PC or other hardware, so this could be worth looking into.
And there are several international SIMs similar to United Mobile, some with Isle of Man numbers.
Which UK network is your daughter on?0
