Broadband checkers saying it's not a BT number

We're currently with Tiscali and I'm just trying to have a look for other deals (now they've been offloaded onto Talk Talk I've already started to notice slower speeds/downtime).

We also pay our line rental to Tiscali so nothing is with BT, but it's the same line/number that we had when we were with BT.

All the different providers, whenever I try to do the line check thing they say it's not a BT line and therefore can't help.

Is there anyway round this - if I phone the provider up can they do anything different to see whether my line is in the right area.

I'm currently looking at Virgin and their price is dependant on whether we're in an unbundled area, but can't check cos of the supposed non BT line.

Just realised, this is probably the same problem as being experienced by Kraftyk8 in his/her thread.

Oh well....
