My friend has a Polti 2400 and loves it for carpets. It's expensive though so I was looking for something a little cheaper. I have a bissell carpet cleaner. It was a recon around £140 and it has been nothing but trouble (that's probably why it was a recon!).

I haver a steam cleaner somewhere in the back of a cupboard. It cleans wonderfully, and is great for refreshing the curtains and the such. I did not find it great for carpets, but mine are berber so probably not so easy to clean!

The reason it is in the back of the cupboard is the condensation - I cannot use it in the winter because the whole house steams up, and I cannot use it in the summer because it is just too hot! Spring and autumn are fine, just so long as I can open all the doors and windows!
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

I also have a Polti and find it brilliant on the carpets, I have cats too and in the flea season I steam all my carpets once a fortnight and it brings the pile up and looks like new, as well as killing anything unwanted in the carpet that is.:)
It's the one thing I say I would replace if ever it broke down!

What model do you have please?

    Hi

I am thinking of getting a steam cleaner. I dont want a hand-held one though. I have tiles in the kitchen, lamenate in the hall, and vinyl in the bathroom, so it would be used on cleaning these, and I would like it for cleaning the wall tiles and cleaning the oven. Can anyone recommend one? I have previously had steam mops which have all been useless, regardless of how much I paid for them.

    Thank you

My parents have a Polti one. When I moved into this house the built in cooker was disgusting. As I had no choice to use it until I could replace the kitchen I had to clean it. It took me about 2 hours but without the Polti I think it would've been condemned! It only took 2 hours because it was so bad. A 'normal' dirty oven wouldn't take nearly as long to clean with one.

    Thank you for your reply.

My cooker is not bad, but I suffer with arthritus so find it difficult to clean and I cant manage to get right to the back of it and the top part of the oven is near impossible to reach.
  • Can anyone recommend a steam cleaner please? I want one that I can clean the shower cubicle with along with kitchen floor tiles. Also I want to be able to use it on carpets and rugs as I have a male dog who is suddenly prone to spraying in the house!

I would like one that has a trigger really so its not constantly steaming if I need to stop for a minute. Really could do with personal recommendation here as there seems to be too much choice and I don't really know what I need.

This steam cleaner from Amazon gets largely decent reviews and costs £19.80 including delivery. It looks like it has a trigger in the photograph.

  • Thanks, but I was looking for a larger one that does floors etc.
