why is the default only 10 posts per page when 40 is easier to use?

I always use the 40 post setting and I can't imagine going back to 10 per page, is there any reason why 10 posts is the default rather than the much better 40 posts?

The thing is, unless you see it mentioned somewhere you don't even know that it can be altered to 40 posts per page. Someone had to tell me how to alter it and I've just explained it to someone else

OK - now you've got me wondering .... How do you get 40 posts per page?

go to the salmon pink band that's on the top half of this page - then 'user CP' then 'edit options' halfway down the page you'll see 'post per page' and you can re-set what you view

I prefer it at 10. Gives me a little rest when I got to the bottom of each page.

But I've just turned on this WYSIWYG editior and it's great!

40 posts worth of posts, smilies, images, signatures and avatars - then realise from the first post that they're not really interested!

I use the 40 posts per page because I don't like having to keep changing pages and waiting for all the images and smilies to load again. (I know I have 2MB ADSL and it takes a few seconds but I'm impatient! :rolleyes:) I believe the default with vBulletin is 10 posts per page so it probably hasn't been changed away from that.

Perhaps we could have a compromise (remembering dial-up users) and perhaps ask for the default to be changed to 20 posts per page.
