Uswitch??-Uwrong!!

The Npower person i spoke too said that they charge 50p per day to be on the pre-payment meter, and all costs where inclusive on Uswitch, other than that, she was as helpful as a chocolate teapot-new EDF card ordered and on route!
The fact remains-whether Uswitch is right or wrong, whether Npowers prices are right or wrong, We were paying loads more than what we were led to believe.
This has know made our minds up-we will stick with EDF and not change no matter what any company claim to charge-no matter how much "cheaper" they claim to be!Why is it, when you actually need something, the discount offer finished the day before?0 -
I do not have an opinion yet as to whether NPower have misled customers using uswitch.
I have however just had a call at the door from a EDF representative claiming that they would be the cheapest in my area (SE England). He also claimed that Uswitch could not be trusted. He called them a liar with a straight face and qlaimed that sky news had exposed uswitch.
Surely if any comparison site has been issuing duff information to customers Ofgem and the media would be making a bigger issue of it.
I can't believe cold calling of this nature still goes on, EDF should be ashamed of themselves. They should take this up with Ofgem not members of the public!

Welcome to the forun.
Firstly, why do you think any comparison site exists? Two choices:
1. As a public service?
2. To make money from commission?
Given that the answer is (2) they will do everything 'legal' to get people to switch to get their commission. In practice a huge percentage of people actually switch to a more expensive tariff(not all the fault of the comparison websites of course)
The favourite 'trick' is to set the monthly Direct Debit payment artificially low.
However if you enter your annual consumption in kWh you will get the correct answers.
As for doorstep knocking salesmen, if anyone is paid purely on commission, as these are, you will always get misrepresentation at best and straight old fashioned lying much of the time.0 -

But to be fair, its not the price comparison sites that set direct debits is it, the DD amount is set by the supplier.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

Also if you phone them, as many do, they will set the DD.0 -

Hi common sense finance,
We have a good relationship with all the energy suppliers and in this instance EDF have said they will investigate the matter you have raised about their salesperson. I'd be really grateful if you could provide us with any details that might help EDF to identify the representative via the email address listed on my profile.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you're able to give us.
