I do think it is worth trying for a mainstream card tbh, you might just be surprised. And you can have a couple of searches to no detriment.
Got Halifax Classic to reduce my interest rate by 5% woohoo - 10/06/08 Thanks MSE!
    Another 3% shaved off 10/12/08
    ANOTHER 4 % June 09:beer:

I've just applied for Barclaycard Initial online as it had the lowest interest rate out of the ones mentioned above. They couldn't give me a decision right away and will contact me for some more details. It only asked for my last 2 previous addresses which only amounts to 18 months worth so they might want more info there.

Fingers crossed and I'll let you know what they say!

If you are planning to pay off the balance in full every month why worry about interest rates?

Ok, so Barclaycard refused me for a CC and said I should look to my Credit File to see why. They said they use Experian which is the company I used to get my report and credit score so not quite sure why they refused me? Could it be becasue I only have my catalogue account and bank account?

Is it worth trying Capital One or should I forget about trying to get CC or should I just get one of those prepay CC's? I don't want loads of searches on my file!

    Any advice appreciated!

    Two questions:

    1. It's been suggested to you several times to try your bank. Why haven't you done so? After all, no-one knows your financial circumstances like they do.

    2. I thought Barclaycard searched predominantly (solely?) Equifax? What does your Equifax report show?
