The problem you have is that the policy can't be in your Dad's name if the car is registered to you and you own the car.

I thought owner of the car is irrelevent - providing it is allowed by the insurance company. We have 2 cars in our house. Both owned by me (finance in my name) I am the registered keeper too. This is the car I use for work.

Policy one. I am listed at the main driver with my wife as a named driver. I pay the premium and the policy is in my name. This is the car she uses for work.

Policy two. My wife is listed as the main driver with me as a named driver. My wife pays the premium and the policy is in her name.

There is also nothing wrong with:
Son owns car. Son has finance on car in his name. Son is listed as main driver on the policy but as a named driver. Father has the policy in his name. - note the bold text. Insurance companies are happy for a named driver to be the MAIN driver as long as they are told.

I know some insurance companies couldnt give a monkies about who owns the car as long as they know WHO is the main driver. Some *do* ask who owns the car. Others will only allow SPOUSES to own the car - the devil is in the detail but as long as your insurance company is aware of the situation then they will charge you extra as necessary. I suggest you read the small print to see if it is allowed.

edit: Hide anything or state the father is main driver then your insurance will be invalidated in an accident. In an accident the insurance company may want more info to see if the main driver has been fiddled (fronting)

edit: just for giggles I went for a quote with directline for a focus 1.8i petrol. Listed a 40 year old male with 4 years NCB, named 19 year old with 0 NCB and 1 year on licence. Listed relationship as OTHER and named driver as main. Policy came back at £2100 eeek.

On my bike insurance with ebike they say that the policyholder has to be the owner and registered keeper.
This resulted in me transferring a bike from myself t my husband.

So as the previous poster says - you need to check what YOUR insurer requires, as they aren't all the same.
