Bi-fold: bifold kitchen door. Good idea? Must it run on tracks?

Mmmm,
Your thoughts on this one please....
Due to lack of space I'm considering a bi-fold door between hallway and kitchen.
Not sure at all really.
Thinking about using glass too, for the top half of a pine door, as its so dark in the hallway otherwise.
What about opening towards the hallway instead of into the room?
I'm agonising because the light switch is on the wrong side of the wall in the kitchen....
Any ideas?

I've used one for years, big improvement. Has a swivel bracket on the floor, and a track along the top, so no problems fitting a track along the floor. Bit of a gap top and bottom, so not cooking smell proof, but well worth it for the extra room.0

Same here - had them for years as small rooms and big doors. Takes up so much less space into the room.Mags - who loves shopping0

Hi i was going to get one of these doors as well but was not sure of the type of handles to use any idea on what the best to use?0

We have a bi-fold door between hall and kitchen, which works very well, however you have to remember that you 'lose' some of the opening width, (about 5"). I have photos but I'm not sure how to post a link.0

Thanks for all the helpful comments.
I have the same query as Grahtyl....Where does the door handle go on the side the folds together?
Don't two sides touch when the door is open (folded) ?0 -
No the 2 sides don't fold that closely together, because of the sliding gear mechanism in the top track. We just have a small round knob on either side of the door, but you could use a handle on each side.0

These look great, where can you buy these from. Perfect for what I need,
But.... can you get them in extra wide, my doors are 93cm ?

Thanks Burns for the photos as these really help.;)
The track is only at the top, right?
I see you have a door knob in the centre of the outside leaf. I image you have to pull this it open the door? Does it have to be centred?
What is on the other side? Another door knob or do you just push against the door to open it?
By the way, yours are the look I'm after, lower part solid, upper in glass.:p0
