Car due for a service?

Hi all.

We bought a car in February this year it had one owner which was the dealership. they bought and registred it to hit their target last June. It had 50 miles on the clock because all it had been used for was several test drives so from June 08 to Feb 09 it had basically been sat on the forcourt.

I got a letter today saying their records show it is due for a service. It's only got 3,300 on the clock.

My qustion is do i ignor this letter and get it serviced after a year or will this invalidate my warranty. Surly after only 3,300 miles components are just bedding in and the sevice is going to cost i would have thought £150 to £200 seems a waste of money to me.The car is a 08 plate

Its technically a year old car and due its yearly service, have a word with the dealership to see if they can do you a deal on the service as with a new car it is well worth have a full service history.

It's not just technically a year old, it is a year old. Get it serviced.

    Thanks for that.

I forgot to mention we bought it from a dealership out of town but the city we live in has a dealership [Honda] do i have to go to the one i bought it from or can i go to the one where i live.
  • you can go to the one were you live but the supplying dealership might do it cheaper since it sat on their forecourt for 9 months and you did them a favour buying it.

Or you can have it serviced at a good independent garage - you don't have to go to a dealership .. :D Just make sure you meet the requirements of the warranty and go where you like.

Good idea - it won't need alot obviously, but you have to have it serviced in accordance with Honda's stipulations to keep the warranty intact - this doesn't mean you have to go to a dealer. You need to use a garage that is VAT registered, genuine (preferably) parts used and it is serviced in their guide lines (either every 10k or annually).

Nothing wrong with you buying the parts needed yourself and find a good garage to service it for you. Even though the mileage is low, it doesn't hurt to have it serviced, get the oil changed, wheels off and brakes cleaned. Its good maintenance. Hope you can find someone that will do it for you at a 'not rip off' price!

I;ll probably stick with the main dealer then i can't go wrong i suppose. I know it's a bit more expensive but it has to be looked after properly if it's to hold value.

Aw don't get me started re dealerships doing it properly............

Seriously, some are good. But I personally don't like nor use them as I have had not good experiences. I prefer to use someone I trust - and finding people like that is not easy - going by word of mouth is a good way. And, for the past four and a half years, have been working at an independent garage, so I am very lucky!! But hopefully there will be a good one near you, ask around.
