Dear Sir Michael Lyons
Re: The Royal Charter of the BBC, & the Treason & Felony Act, 1848
Notice Before Action.
It has been brought to my attention that the Corporation has received and is now receiving substantial amounts of funding from the European Union, in breach of Charter Provisions, and that in consequence of this very suspect arrangement the BBC is now reduced to the function of providing both broadcasting & propaganda facilities to a form of alien authority that fails to acknowledge the Supreme Authority of the British Crown.
I must advise you that all such conduct serves to breach the provisions of the Treason Act, 1351 with the further provisions of the Treason & Felony Act, 1848.
In addition, I must advise that the Treason & Felony Act of 1848 provides that it is a Criminal Offence for Subjects of the Crown to give aid or comfort to Traitors, and that this offence is punishable by imprisonment for life.
I am concerned for my own position and I must ask you to cease and desist from all treacherous conduct & financial arrangements, without delay.
Unless I receive your written assurance that the Corporation will issue an immediate public apology for all Treason committed thus far, with your further guarantee that the Corporation will cease and desist from all and any conduct that fails to maintain the Supremacy of the British Crown, then I must give fair warning of my intention to discontinue the payment of all such moneys as are now being applied to the financial support of the BBC.
I look forward to receipt of your immediate response to this present letter and I give notice that payments in support of the BBC will be suspended, unless I receive a satisfactory response within 14 days of this present date.
Yours faithfully,

Your records will show that I have not received a satisfactory reply to my letter of the ???????, and I must now advise that I am no longer able to support the BBC.
As from today, all payments in respect of a television licence have been cancelled.
Yours faithfully,

It's basically just a spam email that people get sent and then they pass it on. Same as all the virus warnings people continuously email round.

No one has been prosecuted under the Treason & Felony Act of 1848 for well over 100 years now, and the letter is rather silly to suggest that everyone who pays a TV licence could be prosecuted under it.

As someone who has to put up with dire US TV, I can tell you that the licence fee is exceedingly good value. I'd gladly pay twice the price of it, even to just get the BBC channels.

I know this is a money saving site, but why do some people want everything for nothing???

Agreed Marty J. I used to hate having to pay the licence fee, but can see that there is a legitimate reason for it. The BBC is the envy of the World...Look at the quantity and quality of television, national radio, local radio, digital radio and supporting websites that the BBC provide..and all completely ADVERT FREE.

In comparison, try watching TV in the USA...constant repeats and cheaply-made junk, sandwiched between endless COMMERCIALS and 'SPONSORED BY...' messages.

Think yourself lucky...the BBC is should be treasured!

Even following the logic of the thing, if you keep watching TV, you'll effectively be in cahoots with the BBC/Europe in the whole treason thing...so, using the logic in the OP, the only way to avoid trason is to a) stop paying and b) stop watching.

Which you can do without the letter :)

think of the license fee as a subscription like sky+, 15 quid a month doesnt sound so bad after that, with all the iplayer shows and radio thrown in too
Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000
current savings: 20,500 (target hit yippee!)
Debts: 8000 (student loan so doesnt count)

new target savings by Feb 2010: 30,000

...plus, for your £26 or so a month, Sky is still CHOCKED to the hilt with ADVERTS, 'SPONSORED BY...' and 'IN ASSOCIATION WITH...' messages.

How do they get away with that?
