sky card stopped working in one box but not another

My son has got a sky box in his room at the end of last year and he used the card from the sky box down stairs when he wanted to watch something that was not free and it worked fine. Last night when he tried it, it would not work and said that it was the wrong card for the box, but still works in the box downstairs. Why has it changed, and how can I get it to work again?

I'm surprised it worked in the upstairs box at all (unless it was only working for things like BBC/ITV), as the cards are normally (or should be) paired to one box to prevent things like people taking out a multiroom sub and using the cards in different houses.

If he just wants to watch free stuff upstrairs then I beleive he can get a freesat from sky card for about a tenner by contacting Sky, if he wants to watch Sky's own channels etc he'll need to get either his own sub, or a mirrored (multiroom) sub which will give him a card that has the same packages as on the downstairs box for about a tenner a month.

The card is working how it should. The card is tied to the box and the right card needs to be in the right box to access premium channels. Its to stop you for instance taking your card round your mates house to watch the match when he dosnt subscribe to Sky Sports.

The card will act as a FTV card in another box to access Ch5, Sky 3 etc which may be where the confusion is.
