ononemap.com seems to be dead. shame, because it had nice technology even if the links with EAs were poor.0

QUOTE]
Rightmove are owned by the three largest estate agent groups in the country, Halifax, Connells and Countrywide (Bairstowes) - all their branches will be members and all member agents are encouraged to promote the website in their windows. Agents tend to be a bit like sheep so the site that one joins in one area they all join - safety in numbers I suppose. They tend to have great coverage in London and the South East but become more patchy the further away you get.
Depends on your point of view, there are equally people who claim that all the agents in their area are with Primelocation, Findaproperty, <enter your favourite here...>,....etc.
On their website Rightmove claim to have 10 million visitors per month. I don't doubt that their webstats actually show this, but really do you believe that 10 million people are on the move in this country? That's one-sixth of the total population in the UK and 50% of all the homes in private ownership.
What they don't tell you is that the Rightmove website is used as a working database by ALL of the shareholder branches to organise their property listings and their daily administration activity is included in the total figures......how convenient. I wonder if they got them all to keep logging onto the website hourly to get the numbers up for their recent stock market flotation......
As they say, there are lies, damn lies and statistics.
Propertyfinder have a more extensive internet presence due to their extensive partnership deals with all and sundry online and their recent acquisition by News International helps promote them through The Times and The Sun.
FISH4 recently claimed their statistics showed that they actually deliver more enquiries and leads to agents than the other portals and are therefore making more effective use of the medium than Rightmove.
Don't get me wrong, they are a great website, very good at selling themselves, but perhaps not as great as they would have you believe.0 -
I don't doubt Rightmove have 10 million visitors to their website each month. They aren't individual visitors, you could have 500,000 people going to their website 20 times a month, thats an average of once a day, for every day of the working week. Also surveyors & the like use the sight for comparables.
I am an agent & we use Rightmove, have done for the last 9 months or so, results so far have been good. I also use a number of property portals, some good, some bad when it comes to results.0 -
thanks courtjester, but all of that is irrelevant to me. As a potential buyer looking for properties. Rightmove (compared to vebra, propertyfinder) seems to have a lot of the properties I look for in areas. Even agents that use Vebra use Rightmove which has a link that opens a window to Vebra. Also the usabilty is good0
