ANY of above, just avoid John Lewis, PC WORLD!!, Staples etc ... They're massively overpriced ... often 10X that of other suppliers.

Touche kwikbreaks (wow, MSE doesn't like accented characters). However is there anything that isn't eBay? Not that there's anything wrong with eBay, I'm just curious...I guess eBay hasn't lost its competitiveness.

Prowla said they do them in pound shops, and I guess a car boot sale is worth a try :p

Yep - they cost a pound there!

    Probably 50p or less.

Also, if you know someone in computing then you might get one for nothing.

And even better than that, if you don't want to leave the house, there was a thread a week or two back that you could get a free sample of a cable that you could shine a red light in one end and the other end would light up red.
  • Have you tried registering with your local freecycle website, everything advertised is free, its worth a shot.

One difference between ebay and other suppliers is that the more mainstream suppliers are likely to supply cables with moulded plugs, whereas ebay sellers may be fitting the plugs themselves with a crimp tool. Moulded plugs are generally more robust, and I've bought a cable from ebay in the past which didn't work because a plug had been fitted incorrectly.

You must have been unlucky. Every cable I've bought off eBay has been factory produced - it really isn't worthwhile to hand assemble a cable from components which you will sell for about £1 when you can get them wholesale for pennies unless you are desperate.

Driving to a pound shop on a special visit for a cbale will cost more than the 20p saving getting the one I linked to on eBay and should only be done if one is needed urgently.

You need to be wary of the prices of everything on ebay - many computer bits are cheaper elsewhere. Never buy without at least checking froogle (google shopping) and amazon to get some comparison prices. For cables they are pretty much the dogs dangly bits though imo - even if they aren't the difference will be pennies.

My experience is that all the cables I've bought on Ebay have had moulded plugs and are professional bits of kit. And I've bought quite a few!!

CCL Online are usually cheaper than cable universe as well. Often cheaper than ebay. Free shipping.
