I was going to add the above but it was too short.... ;o))0 -
CAT5 is the normal term for unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cables, and RJ45 is the industry standard plug.
The above is at Tesco, and pound shops, PC World, and loads of other places sell them, in various lengths.0 -
I suggest you DONT go to PC World as they will charge you a small fortune, just like they do for USB cables. These cables come free with most routers and should not cost you more than a quid! To answer the 'RJ45' question, yes that is the correct connection.0
-
And if you don't need one today, then go to Ebay for a massive selection of sizes ... and colours! All for a few quid!0

You will probably get one from your local computer shop for a few pounds & they can make them up to the length you want. You can't be lost if you don't know where you're going.0
-
If you already have a router, the ethernet cable will be supplied with it.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I challenge anyone to find a cable on this site that's cheaper on another site, if you're too lazy to compare prices then if you start here you'll barely go wrong.
To pick an example said earlier.
Tesco Ethernet cable, 1.8m for £2.91. Shipping is £5 unless you spend over £25 and collect in store.
Cable Universe, 2m for £0.95. Shipping is £1.99.0 -
Challenge accepted.
