Painting Hall Stairs and Landing

Hi All
I have recentl moved into a 6 year old 3 bed semi and would like to get someone in to paint the hall, stairs and landing. It will need two coates as it is currently a dark purple and I want it a cream colour.
I'm in the midlands so was wondering how much I should be paying for this as I don't want to be stung and pay over the odds?????

Easy to do yourself assuming you are able to do so.
All you need is a step ladder, roller, rod for roller or you can use paint pads/brush.
Use roller/paint pad/large brush for large areas and small brush for over door frames, and just up to ceiling
Use some decent white emulsion and then add the coloured emulsion on top after 1st coat is dried0 -
Hi
Thanks for your reply, I haven't got any ladders and I have been advised that it would need ladders and planks to be able to reach the top level, so I would prefer to get someone in to do it. :rotfl:0 -
We've just used a professional decorator. He charged £18 per hour and his assistant was £8 per hour. Not sure how much difference there is for different areas, we are in N.Wales.
I would be careful telling any professional what it needs. He might have a different opinion. Changing dark purple to cream may take more than two coats. We took advice on paint brand from our decorator and trusted his judgement, he got it from his usual supplier and we paid the trade discounted price rather than go and buy it ourselves.

Thanks for your advice I won't say anything then and see what they recommend!
Did they take a couple of days to get yours finished or with the assist did they get it done in a day?0 -
We had a whole house decorated following a renovation, so it took weeks rather than days! They did bits here and there while waiting for other parts to dry, so can't really say how long just for h/s/l. Sorry, that's not a lot of help is it

I used a company I found through https://www.ratedpeople.com
It's a great site and most definitely worth checking out.

That is a site where people post to share prices they have paid to have jobs done throughout the country, maybe you'll be able to find something on there, similar to what you want doing.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

It depends on height of landing on stairs but you can often do it with a small ladder and combination ladders do the trick for around £40-£60
It could still be cheaper than using a painter and decorator plus you have a ladder then, you will be surprised how much cheaper it is if you can do it yourself if you are able to
I did my whole house on rendering with £100 pro ladder and about £60 on paint (best make you can get) I saved around £200-3000 -
When i'm decorating the stairs to save the need for a long ladder , i made a small platform out of blockboard, it's a bit like an upside down step that you would use to get into a caravan.
The bottom of the 'step', has a square of wood, the width of the stairs, so when you turn it upside down it sits neatly on the stairs, and the wood that was on the bottom is now a small platform to rest your ladder on, then move it up one step at a time.
I know this sounds confusing but it's quite simple reallyLiverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

I tend to work away quite alot and don't really get that much time to myself so I would rather get it done whilst i'm away so there is no up-heavel whilst i'm there and then it's done as I can see a major inccident occuring with me on some ladders!!!
Sailor Sam - I had a look on the website you mentioned and it wasn't that clear on the price as it was charging per room ie: Bedroom or Lounge. There were prices for further down south that said between £15-£25 per hour.....
Woodyrocks - I'm just going to have a look at the website you reccommended now to see if i can find anyone local on there.
Thanks all.
Any Decorators out there in the the East Mids that has an idea?0
