Petrol station - filling up container with fuel
Short version -
Ran out of diesel at weekend, went to nearest garage and gave him container (green as it was all they had when I was buying it) Due to conversation I never told him what I wanted in it and he didnt ask so I walked over to pup to see him finsh filling it up with petrol.
I did ask to swop a container in the shop filled with diesel and they could keep mine that they had filled with petrol but they said no, I would have to buy a new container which I wasnt willing to do.
So they then used a 5 litre container of a popular household cleaner, poured out the bit that was remaining and filled it with diesel for me.
I questioned how safe this was and was told that the proper containers are plastic and this is plastic so it will be ok!!
Should I contact anyone about this, shop staff were very rude and as I was in a hurry I didnt have time to argue but am concerned that they are dispensing fuel into a container that it isnt meant to be in.

No - it was illegal. I used to do a summer job at local petrol station and we had to check the containers prior to authorising the pumps. Up to 5 litres had to be a proper plastic container, above had to be a proper metal jerry can. Anything else and we couldn't authorise it.
The petrol station would be fined if the local inspection officer had seen it.0 -
Who is the best place to contact about this? Do I need to?0

you got your diesel did you not ? stop moaning and move on and in future do not run out of fuel..:D0

Where were you?
I thought all petrol stations were self service nowadays.
My local Asda store's petrol station isn't even manned nowadays.
Where did you find this petrol station that was attendant service? I thought they had all disappeared last century."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
isnt this your fault for not simply saying 'i need diesel in that green can'?Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000

Debts: 8000 (student loan so doesnt count)

Sorry, but I agree with the above. If you have asked for a green container to be filled, they are right to instantly assume that you require unleaded, after all, they are not allowed to fill the wrong coloured container with diesel...... The station offered to sell the appropriate container to you, but you refused.
They then preceded in helping you as much as they can! I think it would be a little hypocritical of you to complain about bad practice. You got your fuel....you have both cancelled out each others wrongs, so learn from your mistake and move on!Profit=sanity
Turnover=vanity
Greed=inhumanity:dance:0 -
I think you should complain to the head office of the garage. It is dangerous to use an unsuitable container, and needs reporting.0

move on and forget it0

Petrol in wrong container can be dangerous, diesel in wrong container no problem, maybe the OP should not run out of fuel and then try and blame some one else when it causes him/her problems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ANURADHA KOIRALA ??? go on throw it in google.0
