Has anyone paid money to the WRONG account

And when did you do the transfer?0

I did the transfer on the 28th and has not been bounced back to me. And yes your right i would be amazed and disgusted if 2 accounts would have the same long numbers. thats 16 digits exactly the same. Impossible. I hope.0

On first direct it says 'Pay bill' and have a standing order set up for her and the money goes in. I went to the pay bill section and put in Natwest it came up with a list. I asked her which card it was and she said visa classic card which i chose (now I know that is a credit card). the card number was put in and it was accepted. Im guessing if the account/credit card did not excist then the payment would not have gone through. although I am amazed that 2 accounts can have the same long number.
Your right it normally does ask for those details but I was being thick and didnt think about it until the money did not go in to her account. yes this is my error granted and i can admit that but I can lose that money just like that. It makes no sense to me.
the payment would not be rejected due to the card number being invalid and probably not even if the account number was invalid. Payments are sent to incorrect account numbers and card numbers every day. Sometimes even to invalid sort codes, although these would normally be rejected at BACS and would not reach another bank - using an invalid sort code is like phoning an invalid telephone number to some extent. Using a valid sort code but with an invalid account number and/or card number is similar to phoning a wrong number - you might actually get to speak to someone but probably not the person you wanted to!3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
If you did it on 28th I wouldn't expect it to go in until yesterday or today. Wait until the end of the week incase there were delays.0

I have spoken to my bank and highlighted 'my error'. they said they would have to contact Natwest etc which is a sign there might be some hope. I think im more angry with myself I just cant afford to pay someone else's credit card bill. If the bank 'ask the customer' what chances will they say yeah OK give him back his money. But all I can do is wait and see. I will keep all informed. Wish me luck and thanks for all your help.0
