Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Munday 8th June. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone is welcome, so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please DON'T post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning. Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!

Good Morning.

It's looking to be a nice morning here so let's hope it continues! I'm up early as I couldn't sleep but it's nice to get some peace before the rest of the family is up & about.

Plans for today are to sort out paperwork!! DH has not filed any of his stuff for ages & it's really starting to get to me now so I'm doing it myself  If non important stuff should happen to find it's way to the shredder for gerbil bedding I surely can't be to blame ;):D

Dinner this evening is good old spag bol which I'm making with 1lb of beef mince and added grated carrots, onion, grated courgettes, peppers & mushrooms to pad it out. I should hopefully get 8 portions from it which gives me 2 for the freezer :T

I've not read the rest of yesterdays thread yet but ((((hugs)))) if you need one. Penny Pincher - I hope that the new meds are getting sorted for you xxx

Edited to add: I've read yesterdays thread now

Jayward ((((hugs)))) hope that you get some good advice today

Taplady I've done a GCSE year with DD last year, it's next year for DS2 and DD'[s final college exams at the same time  ((((hugs)))) for your son

Ravylesley Your daughter looked beautiful. In our parish, which comes under the Salford Diocese, the children make their first Communion in Year 3 followed a month or so later by their Confirmation. I made my first Communion at age 7 and Confirmation at 9 as I remember wearing the same dress that was long for the Communion & ballerina length for my Confirmation - good for Mum :money:

Moring Sunnygirl and all that follow.
Its cloudy here but dry so hopefully the washing I need to do can dry on the line later.
Tea will probably be something on toast as we have a new parents meeting tonight regarding the nursery DS will be starting in September.
made a lovely turkey type broth last night for tea. Didn't want to serve up the tough as old boot laces turkey that I cooked the other night so bunged it into some stock with some broth mix, some carrots and spuds and it was a rather tasty soup. Have some left over for lunch today (although the colour does leave a lot to be desired :o)

It's all about lists today! I need to make a list of things to pack for the kids: toys, clothes, essential equipment like baby bottles etc.
Need to list what meals we are having for the week when we go away. I normally pack practically everything from the cupboard with no idea what we will eat. Most of it doesn't get used and it's just a waste of space in the car.
I am not sure what stuff will be available to cook with at H's relatives so I was thinking of doing simple stuff
eg Cajun chicken, Tuna pasta, Onion, Bacon Potato hotpot, Spag Bol.
Can anyone give any other suggestions that don't require too many special ingredients?
I've got at some point to bake some hob nobs to take away but might leave that til Friday otherwise they won't last ;)

Have a good day all OS or not :D

    Morning.

Dry start to the day, but no doubt will rain before too long. Picked up my boat last night and brought that back. The trailer had new wheels and tyres so towed really well. It's not a fast boat but will make a nice fishing boat which is ideal. Need to do a few bits to it to tidy, but nothing major.

Neighbours funeral yesterday which went OK. The female Methodist Minister was real Cornish. My accent is strong, but her's was great. Perfect for 'Bill' Who rarely even left the county if ever at all.

Last day of work today and then see what the weather holds for my 3 days off.
Well folks, have a nice day..... Cheers

    Good Morning

Very wet here this morning so will have a day off from washing :j

Had a lovely meal with friends last night, nice to have adult conversation.

Today will be a mixture of office work and housework. Think will pop to the butchers as fancy some lamb chops, kids not so keen so will have macaroni cheese.

    Morning all,

Very wet here today, glad I got all my washing done yesterday, need to have a potter abput today, i have some paperwork to do and some bits to sort out. Looks like rain is set in for the day .

The garden is looking good, my corgette plants seem to have perked up, and my runner beans have gone mad :T, will hopefully start to get some crops soon .

I think I might do a chicken curry tonight, we need something warming, as its gone chilly .

Bitsy, I always take a chicken with us when we go away, and shove it in the oven when we arrive, and have it with bread and butter and tomatoes, crisps etc, nice easy meal, you could cook your chicken the night before.

Might look for a little break for us today, cant spend too much, but a holiday cottage, or log cabin type would be great for a week..

Cranky, how sad, it certainly makes you appreciate what you have xx

Hugs where needed, have good days all xx

    Morning All,

Wet here. I've got loads of washing to do too.

Bought a great old chair from a charity shop yesterday that I'm going to try to re cover. We were looking at some smart chairs in an antique shop that were well over a thousand pounds!!!! Now if my tatty old find could end up half as good as those that would be money well saved:D

    Have a good day.

    Mornin' peeps

Well I got a phone call from my cousin last night. My aunt had been in hospital to have a brain tumour removed, well most of it. She's lived with it for 16 or so years now and every so often has to go in and have as much of it removed as possible. Think this is her 3rd time. She had a new surgeon who did things differently to the last and it seems he's managed to get a bigger piece than normally they get. They can't remove it all because of where in her brain it is. She went in at 8am and was in recovery for 5pm last night. By 7 she was sitting up and talking although somewhat slurred and her eyesight was worse (she had only been able to make out dark and light and shapes) but the doc assured my uncle thats because he'd been "poking around in her head".
Fingers crossed MIL should be out of hospital this week as well, she's having 2nd lot of chemo and got kept in a couple of weeks ago and somehow caught an infection and stayed in longer. But she seems ok and is still positive.
What with these two family memebers and 3 family deaths since Xmas I'm having a right old year, sometimes it's hard to get up in the mornings!
But then there's you lot that make it all better :D

Right getting to the point of this post now......
Spag bol in SC for tea, DH & DS1 have been complaining that tea is too late at nearly 7pm, not my fault if no-one cleans up behind themselves in the kitchen and I have to clean it BEFORE I can start tea???
Its raining here in Norfolk so no chance of my washing going out that I did over night, big towels so will have to hang them in the house instead.
Working today so better get on and sort out my hair....looks like the Shockwaves gorilla has been at it over night (remember that advert??) :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Have fun everyone and sorry for being a post hogger!

Hi, life is quite chaotic here (even more than usually!) Spent yesterday afternoon on a sports school trip, I had 6 year 1 children, 4 boys and 2 girls. I was exhausted by the time we got home.
I'm desperately trying to get organised as I am going into hospital with DS2 to have another go at his op. My parents in law are coming up to help, but that means the house needs to be spotless and with 2 boys, as soon as I tidy a room it gets messy again . I also need to get some gardening done. OS is going to have to go as I need to buy some ready meals for me to eat in hospital. Trouble is I look at them and think "how much? and it won't be as nice as mine" I cook with very little salt so always find ready meals very salty. Got to go get some tidying done!
