Removing Suncream stains

I've been passed on some school summer dresses for my daughter, she's only 3 so i'll put them away. The dresses are practically immaculate, as i guess they only get worn for a term or so.
Anyway the only thing i've noticed is marks around the collar, i think its got to be sun cream as little girls of 6 don't sweat like a man's shirt collar!
Any thoughts on how to get these out safely? Previous experiences with sun cream on clothes haven't been that good and because kids have outgrown clothes i haven't been too fussed.
The dresses are light blue and white check, some collars are plain white and some patterned.
Thanks.0 -
Hi bailey,
This thread may help but if the dresses have been washed repeatedly the stain may be fixed and very difficult to remove.
Removing Suncream stains
I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.

thank you, i'll just done the washing up liquid rub and put in with some vinegar for rinsing, so hopefully between the two of them at least it will be improved. I also noticed on closer inspection only 2 of the 3 dreses had marks, the third looks practically new. :j0

Hi all
Has anyone tried the Napisan idea on the suncream stains and if so, did it work? I need to find something that works as hubby's short sleeve (White!) work shirts are getting tinted with yellow. I can't bleach them as it's a regular thing and as he has to top up the suncream during the day he can't exactly strip off so that it can dry entirely. I have several white items that also have stains around the end of the sleeves as I'm super fair and like to wear long sleeves aswell so it seems to culminate around these edges!
I thought I'd get the napisan and try it if it works. I've tried the oxy spray plus putting in a ball of the oxy powder and bio liquid on hot wash altogether and they are still there. Just wondered if anyone had had success with the napisan.
Thanks!0 -
Last year on holiday our clothes got yellow stains, mostly swimming trucks, but also anything white. Initially I put it down to asda Sun Lotion so I bought another whilst away but the clothes still got stained. I then thought it must be the chemicals in the water as we were at a villa and thought type of chemicals may have been stronger for some reason.
We have just returned from a hotel holiday having used nivea sun lotion to find again all the white in the trunks are stained and more annoyingly new white t-shirts and vests around the edges are also yellow stains.
We have been fortunate to go abroad to a sun holiday most years and I have never experienced such staining.
The whites have been in a long 40 degree wash with persil bio and they are still stained.
Does anyone know what if anything might remove this staining?0 -
You could try Napisan (in the baby aisle in supermarkets alongside sterilising stuff) as that bleaches out stains without bleaching out colour.
Otherwise maybe rub with washing up liquid and wash...
I would favour the Napisan x0 -
Hi stormbreaker,
As your thread has dropped down the board I've added it to our main one on removing suncream stains that has some advice that may help.

I knew I should've checked here first
. I've just returned from our hols and washed a load of whites, some of which have sun tan lotion stains on them (P20 if anyone's interested!) The 60 degree wash in bio powder/soda crystals mix didn't remove the stains so I thought "I know, I'll soak them in a dilute solution of bleach". So, one capful of bleach in a bowl full of water, dunked the white t-shirts and  the stained areas immediately turned pink! Now, whilst I don't mind pink (in moderation) this looks like I've got pink sweat IYSWIM - the staining is in all the "sweat" areas - armpits, chest, middle of back, and is in "lines" where the tshirts have wrinkled up whilst sitting. So, other than dying them all pink (would this work, or would they still be patchy?) has anyone please got any ideas for removing the now pink stains?
EDIT - just to add, aside from staining, (I'll remember to wear darker clothes next time) I'd highly recommend P20 - it does exactly what it says on the tin!0 -
Quick update - have tried soaking in lemon juice (must remember to put lemon juice on the shopping list:)) and it hasn't budged the pink. Anyone got any other ideas? Please??!!!!0
