Virgin bill always really high

Our Virgin bills are always around about £60 a month. This is for XL TV package, 10mb broadband and the basic phone package. The £60 a month always includes about £5 of calls.
It just seems quite high to me. I called Virgin yesterday and asked to downgrade our TV to the L package but I could barely hear what the woman on the phone was saying (not a problem with her accent, it was just really quiet). She just fobbed me off with something about a discount that we would lose if we downgraded so we'd only be saving about £2. This doesn't make any sense because we only upgraded about 3 months ago and it went up by about £10 so why can't it go back down by the same amount???
I think we're tied into a 12 month contract with about 6 months remaining for the TV and Phone. We took the broadband on its own almost 12 months ago so I think we could cancel the bb if we wanted.
Any ideas where we could save money? It seems we're tied into some things, not tied into others, can't downgrade certain things, and the bills don't make any sense. I just feel like we're paying out all this money and they make it impossible to try to cut back.

Sounds silly, but have you tried upgrading
I'm on Triple XL, which is 20meg broadband, XL TV and XL phone, which is free calls 24/7 , cheap mobile calls etc. it works out at £56 with paperless billing.

Hi BigMan. That sounds great, I might give it a try.
Also, does anyone know if it is worth asking about HD and/or V+ deals for existing customers? Has anyone had any success? We'd make use of both if we had them and it would just be nice to be getting a bit more for our money.0 -
This link may help - http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html/bundles/triple-builder.html
I have 10mb BB, L TV and M phone - i get charged around £60 and we have about £10-15 call charges.
Ive been with VM for the last decade, but this summer when the contract is ending im going to be saying goodbye for good. Mainly due to the 'credit crunch'.
There seems to be such a variation in prices/packages.
I live pretty close to the local exchange so will see what ADSL has to offer.
TV will shift to Freeview/Freesat
Landline and BB - will be getting from The Utility Warehouse. at and as i'll be getting all 4 services, i'll get landline free 24/70 -
Hiya JD87
I believe the V+ box is currently on offer @ £99 for new or existing customers.
If you are on the XL TV package you pay no more than this but if you are on M, M+ or L you pay a £5 per mth subsciption aswell.0 -

This may be a false economy. The 4 services will include their gas and electricity which is expensive. Check the comparison sites to see how much more expensive your gas and electricity bills will be than the cheapest option with a mainstream company tariff. (Plus on top of your utility bills you have to pay a monthly membership fee to the uw as well)0
