My Son has a Post Office Card Account for Incapacity Benefit only. He is due a Tax Rebate but has no other Account. How can he cash the cheque? Thank you.

It may be worth asking at Post Office, but I'm sure the Post Office Account works on the same basis as a normal account, you should be able to pay chq in over the counter. x

I wanted to put a cheque into the Account some months ago and they refused saying it was a Benefits only cheque.

sorry, was worth a try, plan B, if he can ring the tax office and explain the situation they may be able to issue the cheque in ur name?

Could he not open a basic account somewhere else or even a savings account, so he can pay cheques in that way.

Hope you get it sorted one way or another x

U r in the sticky with this, can he not try a basic savings account, think the Abbey National can be opened with a £1.00, Id try round that way, avoiding the current account aspect may keep him away from credit check radar? just guessing)

Sorry I'm not much help x

From reading the bankruptcy threads, the COOP seems to allow almost anyone to open a very basic bank account so may be worth trying there.
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!

My Son has been told there are places that will cash his cheque for a small charge. Has anyone heard of these?

In the nicest of ways take a wide birth, I think say it was £50 cheque the charge could be £13.

I would def try the COOP as a lot of people use it/ mention it on the bankrupty thread and debt free wanabee threads.

I cannot understand why I cannot put the cheque in my Nationwide Account for him when certain businesses can. How can they be legal?
