New Dell Inspiron laptop problems

Hi all

Can't get emails working on laptop. Have a Virgin router installed. PC working fine. Virgin tech support telling me emails working fine their end so must be problem with laptop, Kapersky security or something else. Been on to Dell (1 hr 20 mins at 6p a minute) only to be told that they can't see any fault and really it's not their problem and I should take it up with my ISP provider. I'm going round in circles and its driving me mad.

Just about to call it a day but wonder if any of you good people have any answers (or even an 0800 number for Dell tomorrow)?

Cheers
Mags

What error do you get? Can you see them in webmail? Can you ping your mail server? Has it ever worked or are you setting it up for the fisrt time? Are you using Kaspersky Firewall? Which email client?

    It isn't Dells problem

    1. Don't get any error, just nothing in my inbox when I do a test to myself.
    2. Can I see who in my webmail (I'm no techni when it comes to computers)
    3. Ping????
    4. It was working a few days ago but I try to install an old scanner to my new Vista laptop & whole thing needed re-installed by Dell (all morning today!) but it was working before that.
    5. I'm using Kaspersky but not sure what you mean by email client?

    Does this help at all?
    Thanks

If Dell set it back to factory settings, you will have to reconfigure your email client, windows mail, outlook, thunderbird etc, have you done that? What did they do?

Can you see your mail in webmail?

Have spoken to at least two people in Virgin and both have set my email account up again. Can see my email in webmail but no entries even though I've sent myself a test email?

If there is no mail visible in webmail, then either there is none, you've downloaded it all, or Virgin have a problem (they have been have problems for a few weeks I believe, well Feb anyway http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/02/18/virgin_blueyonder_email_outage_microsoft/)

But if I've sent myself an email, surely there should be an entry? I just feel I'm going to get bounced from pillar to post yet again tomorrow when I try to resolve it. Thanks anyway, appreciate your help

If you can't see it in Webmail, it's probably a virgin problem. Ask someone else to send you a mail, or create a yahoo account, and send a mail to virgin, or ask for your mse password to be resent. If nothing appears in webmail, it's not your pc setup.

Why would Dell charge you when there's a 6 month warranty on new?

Which browser are you using to access your email or do you go through virgin media site to get to your email, what happens when you log in and have you tried accessing it from another computer to see what happens?

I'm grateful for everyone's help......I really am. The new laptop came with MS Vista and MS Mail. Maybe if I tell you the WHOLE story....it would clarify matters.

I have a PC and that always been working absolutely fine, all emails coming in and going out no problem.

Then last week I bought a Dell laptop (with a Virgin router so I can go wi-fi) everything was fine for a few days then I tried to connect an old scanner to the laptop & it knackered it so Dell had to talk me through re-setting everything (which took about 4 hours yesterday)

Since then, I've been unable to get emails on to my laptop. I called Dell again and we spoke for about another 2 hours (only just realising that I was paying 6p a minute!!!) and she tested it and said there was nothing wrong with the laptop so it must be the ISP's problem.

I called Virgin yesterday we talked for over an hour. He deleted my existing email address on my laptop & put it all back on again correctly but still nothing, he says it must be Dell's laptop.

I seriously just feel like crying now. I wasted practically the whole day yesterday, phone bill will be horrendous, and still no - one taking responsibility.

I can't find anything on my paperwork about free warranty or guarantee, not even a freephone number and of course I keep getting put through to India and I'm finding that exhausting trying to understand their accent.

    Can anyone please please help?
