I imagine it can be very frustrating, but calling people "scum" isn't really the answer is it!

I was in yesterday and I overheard a conversation between the JCP advisor and a charv. It went something like this...

JCP: So how many jobs have you applied for this fortnight?

    Charv: Erm...I dunno

J: Well you get this sheet here to write down what you've been doing to find work. Have you seen any agencies about construction work?

    C: Errr...yes

J: What was the name of it?

    C: I dunno...It was in Peterlee somewhere but I can't remember

    J: Do you look online

C: I dunno how to use the internet

J: You are aware if you don't start applying for and writing down these jobs then we'll cut your benefits so it's in your best interests to do so.

    C: Um..yeah bye.

It was hilarious, I dunno how some of these people in the JobCentre cope sometimes. I'd have wanted to smack him one!

This may be an unfair asumption but some of these people really are, until you have done the job it's hard to see where we are coming from.
The majority come from generation after generation who have no intention of getting work, they flit from benefit to benfit and see this money as a right and they have no intention of ever repaying back into the system.
To them this money is their wage.

First time I have been unemployed during my working life, due to being made redundant.
I don't enjoy the 2 week sign on, but my job centre do not have people hanging around outside, and do not allow people inside unless they have an appointment or want to check the vacancy website.

They do ask what I have done to find employment, but only want to take details of 2 or 3 of my applications. However, they did state when I first registered that they would leave me to my own devices for 3 months to try and find employment in my usual work, after which time they would then help me with the process.

    So we will see;)

Jess, I have been signing on since January; I was made redundant from the F/T job I had as a Christmas sales assistant as they couldn't take more staff on (I have the best reference ever from them though), and so was on contribution based JSA as I was still working part time in another job (less than 16 hours a week). I've since been sacked so am now on income-based JSA. Anyway, almost 6 months in and they don't help me. I wish they would!! Mind you, if I can't find much work to apply to, how can they!

Sorry but signing staff are allocated a measly 5 minutes maximum with each signer...... how much 'help' do you expect in 5 minutes????

As mentioned in other topics over the last few days.... don't blame the JC staff for this... lobby your MP for more staff..

I know what you mean. There are no jobs for me in the current financial crisis as I am qualified in property law, so until the banks start lending, and the properties start moving, I am pretty much stuck !

Looked at other options, but employers don't want to know, cos they know I will just leave when I can find employment in my own field.

    It is crap

Yep; been trying to get bar work; even have experience and great references; supervised hospitality bars @ Ascot, Henley, Wimbledon etc. Keep being told I'm over-qualified despite using my "dumbed-down" CV...Then I tried to apply for a job at L'Occitane and apparently all SAs need NVQs in beauty type stuff.
