Job centres are not there to offer help and advice. They just want to make sure that you satisfy the criteria for claiming JSA every fortnight by making sure that you are applying for jobs that do not exist !

spot on. Keep your head down, sign on and then use the rest of your time looking for jobs YOU want.

:rotfl: That would be a much nicer experience :rotfl:

I don't enjoy going, I never get any help or advice.

My mum works in a JC and I worked in one for 2 months over the summer last year- you only get a couple of minutes to sign someone on and put their money through, so its hard to give people any decent help. I was never annoyed with anyone keen to work though, so don't understand why some staff really are stupidly rude to people!

The JCP is open to everybody. Some may not share your standards of English (although they may know how to use sentences and capitalisation).

I'm not sure what you expected - a cup of coffee and a big hug?

I'm sure that there are thousands of job seekers out there right now who would very much appreciate a cup of coffee and a hug from the job centre. It's what we should be doing to those unfortunate enough to be out of work. Well that and giving them practical, relevent and up-to-date advice on what is out there for them at the moment.

OP - Just an idea, but would going at 9am on the dot make a difference?

Perhaps some of the more undesirable influences won't have had time to crawl out of their pits by then? You could be away before the "rush hour"?

Me too freebie. But because i have never worked i dont knwo where to start with a CV. Darent ask over the job centre as the woman i saw yesterday didint want to get off her bum!

Not everything is done for you. You've got enough savvy to post on an internet forum so typing "write a cv" into google shouldn't be a challenge. The first hit is a link to a government website:

    http://careersadvice.direct.gov.uk/helpwithyourcareer/writecv/

    Good luck.

You don't need to go to the job centre at all unless they've summoned you there to sign on or attend an interview or something.

All the jobs on their computers (both staff ones, and the terminals) are also on http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/JCP/Customers/index.html
Save yourself some time and possibly money involved in getting to the job centre, and look from home. More information on the jobs (if you're lucky enough to find any suitable) can be obtained by phoning them.

I went to mine today and I suppose there are people hanging round outside. Presumably a reason though - their mates are also signing on, or they're waiting for someone or something. Ive never had any trouble from them.
That said, when I arrived today, I parked behind a shiny Mercedes of about 2 years old (I have a very efficient car from last time I was working and my job centre is a couple of miles away, with free parking....which is why I drive).
I went and signed on, and when I came back out, a Mustang had parked behind me! And I thought I had a well-paid job prior to leaving.
So that in mind, maybe my jobcentre is in a nicer area than yours..somehow.

    I disagree.

In my experience, the databases that they use in-house are easier to access than the ones online. Certianly for my current job, the woman I was speaking with found it with different search options to those I was using and I would never have found the job if I'd not seen her personally. I was looking for specific hours and she had much better search options than they give you online.

Also with my brother's current job, it was one that we found at the actual centre on one of their little machines. I probably wouldn't have considered it from the online search as the summary information given is too limted and it wouldn't have flagged up as something that he would be interested in.

Certainly I'd recommend to everyone getting themselves down there at least once a week and going through everything that they have on offer. Yes the information is all online, but it's not always straightforward to identify.

You don't get to choose your sign on time though. I've been lucky and got one at 9:10 which is good because there aren't many people there at that time and it gives me a reason to get up early/ rest of the day to job hunt. Saying that when I signed on last year i had a 4pm appt and never saw that many chavs/ skanks I think they might have a separarate floor/ room for the long term benefit claims though.

So how do you think us jobcentre ''lazy not good at our jobs'' feel having to work, or try to work with the people you all so want to avoid?

We have spent years working with the lazy no intention of getting a job scum, I personally would rather work with these people as its so easy to stop their money when you have time to prove there were several jobs they could of applied for or they haven't turned up to a provider to complete their c.v. as they haven't got on.

All of a sudden every office has had it's register more than double so all appointments have at least been halved, so we (or some of us) do the best we can in the time we have.

We have had 5 new members start on out team over the last few weeks great we all say but we have no spare desks for them to actually sit at and interview peopleicon9.gif
