Downgrading from Vodafone

Hi all, forgive me if I seem a bit naive posting this but I have very little experience with how mobile networks work. I am 10 months into a 20 month contract with Vodafone paying £35 per month. I hardly ever use the phone due to having a work mobile. Is there any way I could downgrade my contract at this point, or even end the contract? Or am I completely stuck with it?
Many thanks for any advice.

After a certain point you can downgrade it, Other than that, Youl have to pay to cancel0

Are you SURE it was 20 months? The usual period is in multiples of 6 months, 12/18/24 etc etc. That said, to discourage people doing what you want to do, they put hurdles in the way - as you would be better placed than someone buying a a more expensive phone for a shorter perios who stuck with it. After 8 months or so, you can ask to drop to a lower tier but whether they let you depends on where you are with your contract - they don't let you drop to the lowest rate in one go.
If you terminate, you'll get hit with the full cost as if you kept the phone until the earliest permitted cancellation date, and they'll want all the money at once to cancell, so it is better to keep it going - or try to sell the contract on to someone who wants it for the price you paid, and the phone. There are some UK websites that match up potential customers and those wishing to give up their contracts. Check these out.
Bottom line? Unless Vodafone seriously want to change the terms of you contract and give you a potential get-out, you'll be stuck with it. Your contract won;t end automatically, you must tell them you wish to terminate 30 days before the end of your minimum term period.0 -
Thanks for your replies guys, I just rang them and they said it would be £302 to buy myself out or they could drop the contract to £25 per month. I chose to drop it down. Might try and do it again in a couple of months' time.0
