How do you delete a poll?

I started a poll on a thread and it closed at the requested time.
The poll is now no longer relevant, it being about a forthcoming date/event that has now passed
But its still on there!

Why does it have to be deleted? You may have started it, but a lot of people have contributed to it and may still want to read the posts.0
