Try vinegar in a spray bottle for general application and lines of salt along the door edges. We get ants in when someone puts banana or apple left overs in the waste paper bin and they are never there long once the food is removed and the vinegar is sprayed around. The smell will dissipate after a while.0

nippon seemed to really do the trick for me, the thing is it has to be the main food source for the whole of the nest to be properly effective, and fresh stuff has to be out down daily for maybe 2 weeks...
good luck nuking the blighters they drive me up the wall...

I use these which seem to work at treat. I'm sure they're ok to put down if you have pets as I'm sure I would have checked this having two cats.
You may want to double check this.

We get ants everywhere in the summer.
I've given up trying to get rid of them and resolved to just live with them.
I sprinkle sugar along the edges of outside doors and they seem quite happy just toddling backwards and forwards along the sugar line.
Also if you see a definate ant run outside put a spoonful of sugar down on it and it seems to keep them occupied forever and keeps them away from the house.
Might seem mad but it's worked for us and we get them everywhere.
I've not had them in the house since I've done this.0 -
The best thing we have ever used is borax which you can buy from a chemist. What we did was to sprinkle it around the outside of our house, you may need to reapply now and then but we have'nt had them in the house for years. We use it just once a year now and it works very well, its not very expensive to buy either.0

I have always found those black ant traps with the 4 little snap-off tabs work. We get them in our house at the start of every summer and those little things always seem to clear it up.
I think they have the poison that they take back to the nest.
Can't remember what brand they are now but they are in ASDA & B&Q0 -
Hi,
We moved into our house 2 years ago and we had a big problem with ants, they were coming up through the floor & behind skirting boards. Tried sprays, gel & powder but they still returned.
We were given some of those electronic repellents, they were used in sister in-law's house in Cyprus where ants were a serious problem but she moved back over here so didn't need them anymore.
We have 3 x simple plug clickers + 1 x "master" which sends a pulse through the mains wiring and makes an audiable click.
Not seen an ant in the house since!!
