Hi Kestor...the base is corrugated roof sheet, light so not iron.
The cylinder is free, the sort with an integral header tank, called fortic.
Already have some 1"thick hardwood to make a case.
Just got to buy the pipework and connections, say £50. £100 max.including some tools like a pipe spring and cutter. Might buy new glass, otherwise the recycling centre .
Skylark's links are the best I've seen, and suggests less right angles to pipework , the better.
I have the ideal position, all day sun, no shadows with the cylinder inside a shed and the collector plate just outside.
Will be using 22mm pipe and if the movement is too sluggish option to fit a pump.
    It's all go.

Anybody got any advice on Solar Slates? We are putting a new roof on to the house and are considering these instead of normal slates.

Hello everyone-newbie here, just a couple of questions for you.I have been thinking about wind turbines and solar heating and solar power and all the forums I have looked at mostly give negatives about them.
Does anyone here actually have any of the above systems and do they REALLY work because the location of my house seems perfect for all the systems I've stated. My house is surrounded by open fields(a few trees though) my house is south facing so the sun is on the roof from morning till night but I'm dubious that they will actually save me money in the long run.
    Any suggestions/answers would be appreciated,thanks in advance.Ray
  • Hi guys !
I would like to setup a solar panel system on my front deck roof which is 32'...

    I am planning on using 24 x 15w panels of 3'x1' I should get @ approx. 3.80$/w.

Can you tell me what I would be missing to connect it all as a primary energy system for my house, electrical system being the backup one then ?( im pretty new to all this and this should be a perfect continuity to my home automation system.

I have seen some power hubs out there and I am basically wondering how I should connect all this ? Anyone could skectch out a quick setup to give me an idea of the required equipment and work load ?

    Thx !

I suggest you search around for much better guides than we can provide here, but basically you are going to need to spend a lot of money on deep cycle lead acid batteries (not forgetting somewhere to put them - the more constant the temperature the better), and an inverter to produce household power from the DC in the batteries.
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.
