As far as I know, you can have other named drivers on hire cars but there is an extra charge. I don't know if your age would be an issue.

Been having a look at rental cars incase its not all sorted before then and I won't be able to get one. You have to be over 23 most places and the very cheapest I've found is 21. Being 20 this is a problem :(

Does anyone know if it would be possible for my brother, 28, to rent a car and have me on the insurance or would they not do that?

i don't know about the rules on hiring cars, but if you are successful, then do make sure you keep all invoices to bill the third party for their tardiness in settling your claim.

Firstly your evidence of it's value is that you bought it pretty recently and paid £5k, that is your best evidence. If it was a genuine bargain and you can't find anything similar you should be able to get more than that. Certainly at the very worst don't accept anything less than a few hundred less than you paid!

You can always reject their offers although your insurer (if you are working through them) might push you to accept to give them an easy life. If the value is miles away from what you can push it to go to court, but the risk is they might apportion some of the blame on to you (ie. you get a percentage of the value according to their blame).

Well I've still not had a final settlement.............

:rotfl: I kid! Just noticed this got bumped so thought I'd update it.

I ended up getting £5400 final settlement fee about 4 weeks before we went on holiday. I managed to find another car for £5200 and went away in that. Was never really 100% happy with the replacement car I'd bought so that's now been sold on and have purchased a new car :)

Thanks for the advice everyone. Had I not known about this site I'd have probably accepted the first offer and been £1000 down.
