Ah right. As I said I'm a complete novice when it comes to this stuff so thankful for all your opinions. You all seem to know a hell of a lot more than me lol.
Time to start getting adverts for similar cars then I guess. This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -
They'll offer you a low price which you will reject.
Then you will provide them with details of the vehicles currently for sale at the price you mention.
Then after a bit of to-ing and fro-ing you should get a better offer.
Sorry to hear about the car btw.:o
Yes, this is what happened in my experience, but my insurance wouldn't up the offer even when I provided evidence  I had to accept the offer because I had to have a car for work.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Try and get a hire car off the other parties insurance you'll find they will settle the claim a lot faster.ANURADHA KOIRALA ??? go on throw it in google.0

My girlfriends car was written off and the chap on the phone and my girlfriend both sat on their computers and looked at cars from autotrader to get a value.0

Yes I've currently got a courtesy car being paid for by the third parties insurance which isn't too bad. Problem is the holiday is 9 weeks away. Do you think they are likely to settle a price in 6 weeks even if I dispute the first price? That way I'd have 2 weeks (giving the cheque a week to clear) to find a similar car. Two weeks should be plenty of time.
Thanks for all the advice everyoneWould be lost without you all

Have you thought of a nice holiday in the New Forest?

Gaz - 6 weeks should be fine. Generally your negotiation is with the motor engineer who inspected the car so make sure you have his / her contact details and e-mail address.
They will use Glasses or CAP to value the car. These are guides available to the trade only. They will make adjustments for high / low mileage as appropriate and arrive at the offer.
Get your info together now because you are entitled to the value at time of accident, not 4-6 weeks down the line. Phone the advertisers to see if they sold it and if so, how much for.
Don't forget, the engineer will also deduct your excess but you will get this back off the other party.0 -
Been having a look at rental cars incase its not all sorted before then and I won't be able to get one. You have to be over 23 most places and the very cheapest I've found is 21. Being 20 this is a problem
Does anyone know if it would be possible for my brother, 28, to rent a car and have me on the insurance or would they not do that? This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0
