Hiya guys I just sold a couple of cars on ebay one sorned and the other on the road.

Question is what do i need to do when they come to pick up (2 different people). Can I just give them the ebay paperwork or do I need to handwrite them a receipt? I'll give them all the dociments etc and they're giving me cash so nothing else to do but send off the log book details?

Thanks I know some of you use ebay alot.

write out a receipt showing sold as seen, that they are the owner from what ever time they pick it up with there address on - make two copies, 1 for them, 1 for you in case of fines etc
get them to fill in log book and you send it away not them
also if possible make sure they are legal to drive them away - a mate of mine was done as he didnt check they were insured and so got banned for 12months as a result since then i make sure they are insured before allowing them to drive off

Why is the seller responsible for this? It wasn't a case of bad driving on his part, I don't see why he received a ban.

Once the sale is completed with a timed receipt not your problem.

The seller could be held responsible if they say the car wasn't actually sold before the buyer took it away. The reason is the seller is allowing the use of an uninsured vehicle on a public highway.

Some buyers request the car still belongs to the original owner whilst they drive it home because then they may be insured under the clause 'vehicle not owned by the insured or hired to him under an hire purchase agreement', however the vehicle must then be insured by the owner.

Once the vehicle has changed hands, the new owner must get their own insurance for that specific vehicle (unless they have a traders insurance which covers it)

Getting the signed receipt confirming the sale avoids complications for the seller.

What are you going to do if they can't provide insurance. Refuse to sell the car?
Sometimes too much information can be a bad thing.

No, give them a timed and dated receipt, signed by them and you. What they then do with their car is up to them. (and of course get the V5 sorted as required)
