OK, let's go posh. If you're prepared to go out to Linton, check this place out.
LOVELY village, quiet, respectable. Wealthy people live here.

Also, check out the river. It's a fabulous place to hang out in the summer, with or as kids. Go down Overcoat Road from the High Street and just follow it all the way, when it turns into Chain Road keep following it. You end up on a big flat riverbank opposite an old pub that's actually 20 miles away by road. Used to spend hours/days down there.0 -
Thanks very much PN. However, Willingham is too far north for us. I work south west Cambridge city (a pain to get in and out of in traffic from any direction but much worse from north) and my dh has to travel to Colchester and Chelmsford fairly often so we really need to be south or west... east at a push as we like Fulbourn
... preferably not more than 8 miles from centre... but have gone out as far as Linton. S*d's law being what it is, south of city is more expensive! Really don't want to be on a big estate if we can help it... but then perhaps I am being too fussy for the money we have available. I can't help feeling that a quarter of a million should get something really nice
probably unrealistic though.
OK ... off to RM again
Not all the south's pricey. Sawston's a bit of a bargain sometimes.0 -
At first I thought Meldreth, another posh place. Not much there, but there is a station on the main line into London for starters.

But that's too far west really. So I ran a line between Chelmsford and Colchester ... and looking up between the two, Saffron Walden. That's always been lovely.
So I looked - it used to be really pricey. No idea what the proximity to others is because they don't show you, but this has more space than you need to batter all your kids/husband ... and enough room for them to rush off to cry in

Looks like somebody owned the end plot and built on the end (different colour bricks), but it is in a close ... could be !!!!!, dunno.0 -
PasturesNew wrote: »Why would anybody look in Arbury if they had £250k? Just 2-3 miles further out there are much better/nicer/safer places. Arbury's always had a bad reputation - and you don't have to go far to find somewhere "better".0

imho ... it doesn't look good ... but it serves a functional purpose of space.0 -
We can't find anything we like within 2-3 miles of the city for 250K with 3-4 bedrooms (or an extra reception as my dh often works from home) PN. I really wish we could. I have a thing about not being overlooked from the back, (by which I mean a house backing onto ours whereby their back windows look directly into ours with not a lot of garden and/or trees inbetween) which cuts the options considerably. Very little is coming onto the market... we have even started looking as far afield as Linton and still no joy.

Had a spare bit on the left hand side of the council house they'd bought .... built a new house. At least, that's what I make of it.
Bit thin... but not as thin as the one on Newmarket Road I viewed in about 1988/89 that was about max under 7' wide and for sale at £70k. (2 up, 2 down, no parking)0
