Starting BOTOX business - any nurses do this?

Options
Friend of my wifes is a beauty therapist (actually, she does training etc as well) and has been speaking to her about Botox treatments. Apparently, theres a huge demand for this.

I've looked into the legalities of this and it does seem a bit vague to be honest. However, it looks like it might be a bit better if your a qualified nurse (my wife is).

Just wondered if theres anyone else, qualified nurse or otherwise, that does this?

Yeh. Been looking into it and it seems a bit of a grey area...
  • Registered Nurses can obtain Botox from suppliers. You need to send them copies of nursing certificates and Botox training certificates. Then they set you up with an account. I order from medfx.

Be prepared for huge lawsuits if any treatment goes wrong.
  • You do not need to be a nurse you can do a beauty course with bottox training included :)

A lot of places are stopping doing botox as of the huge compensation claims with just one mistake.Allegan will only supply the botox on prescription.
  • Let me add my two pennorth: To obtain Botox - which is prescription only medicine- requires a prescription from either a Doctor or an Independent Nurse Prescriber. You MUST be a Doctor, Dentist or a Registered Nurse - you CANNOT do a beauty course with 'Botox training added'; at least not legally, and if you did, the specialist insurance companies that provide cover will not accept you.

The training is fairly expensive - about £650 for the Botox course, and £650 for the Dermal fillers course.
    Insurance is about £700 ish.
Then there are advanced courses on top of this - not cheap!

Hope this clears up some misconceptions....

Also doctors and independent nurse prescribers are very reluctant to get involved as they would be partly liable.

I was under the impression you had to be a nurse prescriber otherwise you needed it prescribed by a doctor. We've just set up an arrrangement with a doctor now to prescribe for us.
