                    Hey all.
My first post for advice after being pointed this way.
I bought a kettle from Comet earlier this year, March, and the lights have blown today - its still works but the lights are out so you are never sure if its on or not.
Now, I have lost the receipt so is it still viable to take the kettle back to the shop and ask for a replacement?
They always ask for my details when paying so can they find the sale on their system and will I be able to swap (I just want a swap, not refund etc)
Thanks
Ryan

Unless you can prove purchase then no and they dont need to be compliant in assisting you proving purchase.0

Did you pay by credit or debit card? If so then just take in the statement that shows the Comet transaction. The man without a signature.0

The staff may very well help you out by tracking the item on their system - I don't agree with the first person who answered you, not all companies go out of their way to be difficult. It will be a big help if you have a CC statement though.
Worth a try anyway - you have nothing to lose if they won't help.ELITE 5:2

I do agree with Linas - they are not obliged to help you out to prove the purchase was from them. You can try and ask them, but they are well within their rights to say no.
Credit card statement, or potentially if the item was a Comet exclusive.0

I understand that scullster - I just meant that its worth asking as some firms do actually go out of their way to help out! I know they don't have to do so in this case - but they might ,so its got to be worth a try. The result just might be surprising.ELITE 5:2

If you gave them your details then they will be able to bring it up.0

If Comet won't help you, try contacting the manufacturer.
Our kettle developed a fault within a few months of purchase and like you, we had misplaced our receipt. (Our original purchase was from ASDA, and we bought it at a reduced price when they were clearing old stock.) We contacted Breville, the manufacturers of our kettle, and alerted them to the fault. They requested a code from the bottom of the kettle and were able to use this to determine that our kettle was within warranty, having been manufactured less than a year previous. We were instructed to return it to them at our cost, and within a week or so, the postman appeared at our door with a shiny new kettle for us. 0 0

Chances are, if you only bought the kettle by itself, they probably wouldn't have taken any details from you. If that is the case, try a card statement or finding someone helpful enough to find the sale on the computer for youSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Did You know that if you buy anything from anyone useing your credit card you are actually buying the item off your credit card company :j so whether you bought it from John Lewis Curry's Or Comet the last resort is to get your credit card to sort it. :beer:The solving of a problem lies in finding the solvers.0

I do not think so, only if OP was so stupid as to pay over a hundred quid for it!
