Do we pay a lot for water?

Hello, wondering if anyone could help as we seem to pay a lot for water and was wondering if we would be better on a water meter. We live in the South East of England and currently pay £38 and £41 every month for 9 months of the year. One is for having the water and one is for taking it away. We live in a 4 bedroom house with 4 adults. Does this seem a lot of money?

Thanks for any help

    Welcome to the forum.

You would have to use a lot of water to approach £711pa on a meter.

The average consumption for 4 adults is 240 cubic metres per year.(many use much less it appears) You can look up the prices for water, sewerage per cubic metre and standing charges on the web. I suspect it will be around £500.

The good thing is that if you get a meter and it isn't cheaper, you have 2 years to revert back to your current charging method.
  • Thanks for your quick reply, I am going to have to seriously look into this! £200 a year saved just on water is a lot!
