Anyone with a Philips c12 or Savvy phone using the old service provided by o2 will, after 31st may, not be able to use their phones.

o2's response. 'Sorry, you will have to go and buy another phone'.

Anyone that has been using their phones REGULARLY will receive a £5 credit against a new phone for every £50 they spent in the last 6mths? (Provided they buy from o2!!).

I wouldn't stay with o2 if they were the ONLY provider after this.

Nothing we can do. any thoughts?

NO MORE 5p TEXT ANYWHERE AFTER MAY.:(:(:(

Plus, I love my old phone.

I think its a tad cheeky of them saying this, as it is true for ALL new O2 phones you buy (after being with them):

I didn't think there was anybody else still using that tarrif :D

Really annoying, as we've recently replaced the original batteries
in our old "Diga"s (7 or 8 years old, I'm not sure which) on the "U" tarrif:
5p per minute, billed by penny increments "U" phone to "U" phone,
and the 5p texts to or from ANYWHERE they'll work.

My phones will become scrap/museum pieces as the SIM and the phone
are a pair which work together due to the on-board billing, and won't work
with another (credit card sized) SIM.

I expect I'll have to start wearing my glasses when using a mobile,
but I doubt it'll help stop my podgy fingers hitting multiple keys
    on a tiny keyboard.

As mentioned above, for pre-pay, Tesco is about the best I've found so far:

    http://www.tescomobile.com/simCards.aspx

and the coverage should be the same as you're used to, as their network
    is "virtual" carried by O2.

    commiserations

    Yes thats the one.

I shall miss my ol' brick.

Damn good phone IMHO though when I got my teenage daughter one she wouldn't use it cos people took the p*ss.

Dunno why - something to do with the ringtone I guess.

Perhaps I should Ebay it while there's still some life in it.

Fresh Mobile (http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/commerce/servlet/gben-server-PageServer?ARTICLE=STATIC.FRESH2NETWORK.MAINPAGE.THISMONTH) has 5p/texts to any UK number, and 15p/min calls to any network any time (billed per second).

I had that Phillips Savvy C12 "U" phone in 1999! It was my very first mobile phone. Wow old times....

I love my Phillips phone too! I was mortified when I had a message saying that I couldn't use it after May. It has never failed me. Causes a great laugh when I get it out but I don't care. I'm not in the least bit interested in gadgets. Thinking about a Nokia 1100 now and wondering about Tesco mobile. Life was so simple before - all these options to choose from!

  • If you get one of the O2 payg sim cards you get 300 texts for £10. That's 3p per text - almost half what you were paying!!

Check them out on the O2 website.

Only 3p a text if you use the full 300 and top up by £10 every month
