Warning re Bennetts Motor Cycle Insurance

Just wanted to spread the word. Watch out for Bennetts motorcycle insurance. Bennetts have now added on to the reverse of the Insurance certificates that they retain the right to renew your policy automatically and they also have added the right to retain credit and debit card details. They charge renewal directly to your card - you pay a rediculous premium. No renewal notice nothing.

I got caught out by them for not opting out! Very small print on reverse of certificate.

Their recommended Insurance policy was 50% dearer than the previous year and that was with more No claims bonus. Complained and all i got was a charge for cancelling.

I looked on another Insurance comparison site and all 20 of their Motorcycle insurance quotes were cheaper and some better policies.

Bennetts are ripping their customers off.

Its true they have the auto renewal clause but its not true its in 'very small print' its the same size print as the rest of the info on the back of the certificate which isn't 'very small'
And to say you got caught out by not opting out.....whose fault is it that you didn't read all the paperwork thoroughly?

Probably a lesson for the future to phone and ask where your renewal quote is if you don't receive it and to ask if you are on auto renewal or not. Also to read all paperwork properly before accepting a policy.

Both me and my mum are with Bennetts and needed to renew at around the same time. They auto-renewed her insurance but didn't with mine! I don't remember ever opting out either.

The key thing here is that they didn't send you a renewal notice. Most firms do indeed retain your details to automatically renew but will generally send a renewal notice a month or so before saying how much the insurance will be for the coming year. Seems like the thin end of the wedge to me if they don't send this out and I hope this isn't something that will spread to other insurers as it's obviously in their interests.

I think it might be worth pointing out that a young lady called Jade at Bennetts was the initial point of contact at Bennetts and judging from her polite comment this Jade has left at the end of her post she has responded in the same manner she deals with customers. The policy was not like for like and from a different Insurance company and was over 40% more expensive.

    Am I missing something?

What has your initial point of contact at Bennetts got to do with me?

I always make a point of telling the company that they are not to auto renew my policy without the OK from me first. I expect a renewal letter from them and I will get quotes elsewhere unless I feel the price is good enough.

I was with Bennetts for 2 years until I cancelled the renewal this year, it was always automatic.

Picking up on an earlier reply from debralee, her mums was and her's wasn't last year mine wasn't either. It might be hit and miss if they do renew - who Knows. The service from Bennetts has been poor. I would just suggest that you think about any motorcycle policy taken out with Bennetts watch any small print as it appears. Having had vehicle insurance for 25 years Bennetts have been the worst company I have dealt with.
