Ok, I put the Modem USB into another port (there is the number 2 beside it)and it brings up the same message as before, then I tried it into another port (number 3) and it won't work either, so the Modem only works in one USB port, should it not work in any of them?? Hope I'm making sense!! lol

    Power problem.. 99% sure.

Your PC has a PSU to deal with self power devices. Your laptop doesn't.

Its the same with USB port hubs.

You still should be able to return it though.

you could go for a powered hub such as this,

Well i'm not too sure how power is given to the usb ports on a laptop, but i'd assume its equally shared... try the floppy drive in the other ports as a last resort... but ye its deffo a power issue

No the floppy drive won't work in any of the ports and the modem only works in one port which is strange??
My laptop is usually connected via the plug to save the battery when I need it!

    Rossy,

I think you would probably need to configure the modem to work with the other ports. I use internal wireless so can't test it out, but perhaps you need to look at modem props when conecting to another usb port. I agree with merciless in that it looks like a power issue. Have you tried disabling the modem and then connecting the floppy drive. May be enough power to run one usb device.

Its strange how the modem won't work in the other ports. Think I may get someone to call and look at it as I'm really unsure what to do, no I didn't disable the modem, wouldn't know where to start, lol. May just leave it and get someone out!
  • do not call anyone out to have a look no way. Unless you 100% know they're trusted.. they are rip offs. seriously....

Mates are fine i spose :P

At the end of the day, maybe you should just buy a powered hub, stick it in the usb port u know is working, and run everything through that :)

I no what your saying, I'm sure it would be costly! Probably will buy a powered hub and work from the port that is working, bugging me tho why the other ports aren't.

Just one further thought Rossy. Some laptops have USB power management turned on by default. Have a look at the "power management" properties of "usb root hub" in "device manager". Is "allow computer to turn off this device to save power" ticked? If so try unticking.
