Hello
Having problems here installing a floppy drive to my laptop.
When I plug it into the USB it brings up
'Found New Hardware - USB Floppy Drive' then 'Cannot install this Hardware, There was a Problem Installing this Hardware Y-E Data USB Floppy, The System cannot find the file specified'
It didn't come with a disk, would that be why? I'm using Windows XP Prof??
I've alot of documents saved unto my floppy and hopefully someone can help?

Sounds like you don't have the required driver(s). Can you look on the manufacturer's website for driver downloads?Herman - MP for all!

hmm afaik aliasojo usb floppy drivers are plug and play devices?
But if there is a problem yes the manufacturer's webpage should have a driver available to download. If that doesn't work, then you have a problem

Oh lol...you're right merciless. I skimmed the post and went right past the 'usb' bit.

Not sure then. Are you sure the floppy drive is fully operational?
Are other usb devices working ok? Have you tried plugging something else in?Herman - MP for all!

One other thing.. could be a power issue..
If the floppy drive has no plug (self powered thru usb) then it will prob only work on a desktop PC. If it has a power supply, then either its a malfunction or a serious manufactuering error.
Hope you got warranty ;p[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

The only other device I've plugged in is my modem, works fine. I'm on the toshiba website and it asks 'Driver Type' I selected 'Floppy Driver' and it brought up nothing. When I selected 'All Driver Types' it brings up 45 Drivers, ie. BIOS Update, Controls, Display Driver, Display Device Change, Dual Pointing Device, LAN Driver, Modem Driver, Windows XP SP2 Update Information etc etc.
Not sure what to do?

Take the floppy drive back to the store and say its faulty.
If there is no driver its 100% plug and play. If it wont install on your pc then hey, its faulty right?
Go for another floppy drive

Power problem.. 99% sure.
Your PC has a PSU to deal with self power devices. Your laptop doesn't.
Its the same with USB port hubs.
You still should be able to return it though.[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."
