A lot of change! How can I convert?

Me and my girlfriend have managed to collect 47 pounds (1ps, 2ps, 5ps, 10ps, 20ps) in the space of 3 months!

Could you recommend any services that would change it all to 1 pound coins? We have sorted them out into money bags at the correct amount.

I'd rather use a service that doesn't use commission to live. I would prefer to use a bank/service that doesn't require me to put the cash into an account.

All help appreciated! :j

You could try asking your bank if they will do this for you.

Local shops may be willing to do this - it could save them bank charges.

Give the McDonalds on the high street a try!

I don't have a bank but I'm going to set one up later this week, do you think they would do it if I wasn't 'with' them yet?

    Why not just spend it?

That's a great idea, I'll give that a try. My girlfriend has work in a bakery and they frequently need change (not 47) but it'll knock some off the total, hopefully.

We are taking it on holiday and it's a bit of a walk to the amusements. (Which is where we intended to use it). I don't want to look as if I have gerbils in my pockets :D

Why not wait until you've opened a bank account, then you can pay it in.

Open one with HSBC / First Direct and you can use change machines in several of the branches, you just tip the money in a hopper and it counts and credits it all to your account, no fees

Any of the big banks should take them if you have an account with them, but bag them up into the different coin types, then they will just weigh them rather than count the coins.

And go in when the bank isn't busy to avoid a fuming queue!

You can get coin bags from the bank - but some banks have a limit on how many bags you can pay in at a time

Or open a HSBC/FD account and use a coinstar machine (not all of their branches have one though)

Or find someone who needs change like a local shop and exchange it as mentioned
