  • I'd be more inclined to change it due to the fact that you set it down on the ground (in the picture).
But i would change it anyway, its always worth it ;)

Is that quite a lot of dirt to find on a car filter?
  • from the pic it looks fairly clean, how long has it been in there? if a long time say 3 years or more i'd change it anyhow as the colour of the filter may hide some dirt. if less than 3 years stick it back in, keep a lookout for offers such as at Halfords, then buy it and replace, although that’s probably taking moneysaving the extreme!

It's been in around 2 years if I remember rightly. Best price is the dealer genuine at £12.73 but I'll keep m'eyes peeled for a bargain though Halfords were around £14 when I called them. Do they have BOGOF offers or something? ;) Cheers
  • forget the stealers, try a motor factor near you, it will be much cheaper and probably original equipment manufacturer (same spec as nissan). i would look to pay £6-7.

    also try ebay,

Funny enough when I emailed the motor factor, they sent this back:
The filter that we would supply is part number ADN12226, manufactured by ADL and is priced at £13.57.

It is not classed as a genuine Nissan filter but ADL do supply Nissan and many other japanese and Korean manufacturers so the filter would be identical to one from nissan (apart from the packaging and lack of nissan branding)

Strangely their price is above that of Nissan  But I'll take a look at ebay a bit later and see what I find!! What do I look for, just the Car Make, Model, Reg and Engine size? :o

I'd change it. I know we're money savers, but if your old one did you for two years that's only just over £6.00 a year if you keep a new one for that long. At that price it's not worth quibbling over!

Also, I doubt eBay would be much cheaper once you factor in postage.

Look on https://www.yell.com, type in motor factors in your area, ring around and quote ADN12226 and they will give you a price, thats the blueprint brand i told you about a few weeks back, very good make, always worth ringing around, never go for the first price, also you might as well change it as it does no harm to and help your engine to breath better inwhich helps the performance of the engine.
Don't bother with ebay, waste of time, you'll end up paying more, just bite the bullet and get your money out!

    Replace it!
It should cost under a tenner and will keep your engine running efficiently. A dirty filter will cost you at the fuel pumps, by around 2-3 mpg.
If you want to go up market and only replace it once in the cars lifetime, you could buy a K & N panel filter. These are made of steel mesh and can be taken out and cleaned instead of thrown away. The initial cost of around £40 is worth it if you plan on keeping the car for a few years.
Either way you will save money in the long run.

i have done over 200,000 miles on my k&n filter so far, i am not sure i will push too the million mile mark like they guarantee though, at a tenner a go for a paper replacementit has saved me a tidy sum , i clean it when the performance drops off by a couple of miles a gallon (about 30 or 40 miles per tankful is noticeable , roughly every six months) then clean it. The same use with a paper filter would see me changing it every 6 weeks or 3000 miles. cleaning it twice a year can be a chore though
    speed is good
