hey, has anyone come up with a solution for this? sounds like a common problem. I'm just renting a flat and its been a nightmare to try to fix!0

You are always best to use the seat that is dedicated to the suite. I have fitted bathrooms for years and find that using the universal seats can be a bit of a mish mash.
I use Bathroom Supplies Online for my bathroom bits. They are useful and get the gear pretty fast. If you order off them more than once they usually start to trim the price even further.0 -
We've got the same toilet model with exactly the same problem with one hinge. Haven't figure out how to fix it yet but I'll be looking into the suggestions on this thread."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

I came across this thread while looking for a solution to my Ideal Standard Space toilet seat problem.
My toilet seat never sat on the pan properly from new, even though the seat had been correctly fitted. I believe the mis-seating, coupled with corrosion, is what caused one of the two screws attaching my toilet seat to the curved hinge bar to snap.
I fixed the seat by dismantling the fittings, giving everything a good clean, putting the fittings back together again and then gluing the seat to the hinge bar, with the seat sat flat on the pan. After researching various building strength glues I opted for Evo Stik Serious Stuff Adhesive – around £8 for the tube.0 -

I know this is an old thread, but I was searching for the Space toilet seat problem and found the above useful information. Thanks gaitor!
We have had lots of problems with the hinges, but in fact the thing that has finally gone is the seat itself. There was a loud snapping sound this morning, and when I went to look the seat has cracked right across one side so it is now no longer a full circle. I've been searching online for a replacement, and the cheapest I can find is £63 - eeek!
And then I found this thread, and someone mentioned a mark 1 and a mark 2 Space seat - help! How do I tell the differences, and do they all fit the same way?
Any help gratefully accepted.0 -
If you trawl the internet, and read the reviews etc you will find this is a common problem, the design is really awkward, so you cannot fit any other seat, the hinges are NOT stainless steel, so they corrode within just a few months and the whole design is really poor so they tend to fall apart very quickly.
You can drill larger holes and fit oversized screws, but ultimately, its actually cheaper to replace the whole unit with an item from a manufacturer with some scruples . . (apparently ideal standard have been aware of this appalling quality for years but like the huge profits from spares).0 -
I know we bought ours from mytoiletspares they are cheaper with quick delivery time as well.0

Why recycle this old thread again? Your post looks like spam...."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0
